Winchester Big Bore question

Hello all. I recently got a like new condition top eject Winchester XTR Big Bore in .375 win. and some thing about it has me puzzled. On my pre '64 30-30 when the action is closed the lever stays pushed againced the safety plunger that sticks out from the bottom tang metal, my big bore doesn't. The lever just kind hangs there so I have to give the lever a slight squeeze to pull the trigger. Is there something wrong with my rifle or was this a first attempt at a secondary safety measure they tried before they went to the cross bolt safety?

Not to worry - that's the design to require the lever to be squeezed up to shoot -



That little metal behind the trigger does to job - all my Winchester 94s require it too.

Yep...you're good to go on the Big Bore. It's doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Like OJ and C.Cash said all is well, you're good to go.

I have a 1950, 1980, and 1985 Win 94.
The 1950 lever tucks up nice and tidy, almost no gap at all between the lever and lower tang.
The 1980 lever hangs down just enough to need you to hold it fully closed.
The 1985 hangs down a bit farther but there's no binding, so it's working properly.

It's just a safety design that's been in the rifle since day one, they just made it a bit more noticeable around 64.

Basically, it's the rifle equivalent of the grip safety on the 1911 - designed by JMB
