OT / Replacement grips for Colt SAA

I have a Colt SAA of recent manufacture & would like to buy another pair of grips. I've heard that it's almost impossible to get a good fit with old Colts but wonder if that is true with pistols of recent manufacture.
Any advice?

Always heard that replacement grips on Colt SAA's - any generation - need fitting. Some more than others, but all need fitting. Just what I've heard - I still have the original grips on my 3rd Generation Colt SAA...

I have a very nice 1st generation SAA. I've tried mail ordering grips but none fit. I'm afraid to send the gun off to have grips fitted. It has original grips on it but one of them doesn't fit well.

You are correct in that Colts need to have hand fitting for the grips. I always understood this to be a result of all the hand fitting of the actual frame and parts at the factory.

This isn't advice per sea but our own 44-40 has a set of faux ivories for sale in the classifieds for a good price.

It would be worth the time and effort to buy them and use them for practice fitting your own.
I would have already bought them, but I'm busted.

...and if those don't suit you, I am awaiting some nice "engraved" faux ivory grips for my Ruger SA .45 Colt through this company:

Great prices for quality merchandise - see testimonials by John Taffin and others. They feature faux ivory, stag, horn - with or without engraved figures. It's real cowboy looking stuff. I've seen other stag and bone replica grips, and did not like the painted look of the ribmarks and indentations. These look a lot better.

For first time customers he also sends you an extra piece of material to practice on before fitting your grips to the gun.

I'll be displaying mine, once I get the grips and fit them into the gun.
