1885 Winchester in 32 long made in 1887.
My local gun dealer called me and wanted me to come look at a 1885 Winchester. The stock had been sanded and some screws replaced. The action was tight. Also the front sight was replaced with a carved ivory piece. The bore had decent grooves but was pitted. He wanted 800.00 for it. Too much for my blood in that condition. Can you get 32 long ammo these days?

no, not rimfire.
I walked away from a similar 1885 at pawn shop in Corpus for that reason, and he was ready to drop the price way down
you can find 25 stevens ammo on gunbroker - a lot of prewar, but also Canuck ammo made into the 1970s.
The only obtuse reference I found on 32 long rf was a statement that Navy Arms made a run of the 32 short and long a few years ago - the blog date was 2005. Might be worth a call to Navy Arms.
OK, here you go, 34 pcs on gunbroker

OK, Canuck made this ammo, also - search 32 rimfire on gunbroker and a few boxes will turn up, selling for about $1.50/rd.

Periodically, Navy Arms has a run of .32 RF made in Brazil. I don't know how often they do so, but I have about six or seven boxes of the stuff as I have a Frank Wesson tip up rifle chambered in .32 RF/CF. The hammer has a firing pin that can be set for either RF or CF. .32 Long Colt will work in the gun, but it's only available at collectors' prices. So, I don't shoot the rifle very often. Check with Navy Arms to see when the next run will be made.

I have shot a bit of the NA 32 rimfire and was not impressed it was not very accurate. But you could convert the breechblock to centerfire.

Just in case you ever need obsolete ammo or want someone to reload it for you......

You could also have John Taylor reline it and replace the breechblock/firing pin, so you have a 32-20.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I'm not going to fool with it. Like I said in another thread I already have a single shot 32-20 Husqvarna so I don't have a need for it. I was thinking about buying it for re-sell but I think it is too high. Now finding out how difficult it is to find ammo for it plus the accuracy factor, it would be a tough sell with the condition it is in. Thanks.

That does seem a bit steep of a price. Sounds like their basing the price on that Winchester name. I have a Marlin model 92, that shoots the 32 Long rim and Center fire rounds. Over the years I have gathers both types of ammo. I also keep the brass and do have a bullet mold, in the event that I aspire to reload them, at some distant time.
It is a very good round for small game, but there seems to be a lack of support for the caliber. What with all the other 32 calibers, like the 32 H&R Mag, 327, 32-20, just too much competition to revive the 32 Long. The rifle has been in the family for a while , so no plans on selling it, but if I did decide to sell and could get $400, I'd be real pleased.
