OT-Revolving Carbine

Blaine, I came across a link to this from a forum I stumbled across while surfing. The O.P. also said that Taurus told him they would be offering it with a smooth bore, chambered in 410 bore only, also.

Hi All,

I've always gone the other way with this concept. I shoot 45 Colt in my Puma 92. You can get a lot of juice from a small package. Lets have a rifled barrel, and a 410 sized cartridge that shoots a 350 grain 45 cal (475 ??) bullet at 1600 fps. Elk, moose, big bear, cape buffalo......these were the ballistics of Linebaughs first 5-shot 45 cal revovler that Seyfried shot cape buff with !!!

It's not exactly a new concept, with S&W making some 700-odd .32 caliber Revolving Rifles, with either 16", 18" or 20" bbls and a detachable shoulder stock.

I had one similar to this one, for a few months in early 1976, complete with it's issue suitcase & 3 unopened boxes of the special .320 ammo that had RN lead bullets seated even with the mouth of a cylinder-length case.

Several versions of the revolving carbine have been offered over the years, I've seen them offered based on both the Remington 1858 & 1875 revolvers and Colt clones:

Rafter-7's dad just bought one, 3 shots touching @ 40 yds with light handload. I would have bet the farm it wouldn't even come close to that.
Action is gritty, might be from unburned powder, but not totally.
Really have to reef on hammer to cock next shot. Might get better with usage.
Scatter gun really scatters shot, not exactly a pheasant gun.

Taurus makes a handgun called the Judge with same chambering. It's marketed
as a home defense weapon. I'm told that a .410 double 0 buck shell holds three
pellets roughly the size of a .38 bullet. Would probably slow a burglar down PDQ.
The rifle is an evolution of the handgun.

Always been enamoured with the concept except I HAVE been burned and/or cut by BC gap blast. This was always the issue in the past. Looks like they have licked that problem with an integral blast diverter to protect the supporting hand. Yes an interesting way to sell the revolver as a squirrel gun/critter gitter. Just kinda neat.

This is a clone of the Colt Buntline. It was offered with this cast brass/wire stock but it was silver plated. This one is in 45lc.
