Not exactly a for-sale, but...

Post by Panzercat »

I am attempting to locate a store/supplier that actually carries or can obtain a Rossi R92 SS 20in in the 454 caliber. The thing that is driving me nuts is that it seems nobody in AZ carries the darn things, and I quickly tore through their "authorized supplier" list without any luck. Walmart can't special order them due to some database upgrade (I'm laying my money on political BS), Cabela's is a nogo, BassPro is same, Sports Authority is fail, Dicks sporting goods likewise. there are plenty of grassroots firearms places out here, but the .454 is apparently obscure enough not to be readily obtainable or wrorth the time to aquire.

Gun auction websites are also fail. Most hits are actually out of stock or on gunbroker, who is rotating the same three rifles nobody else wants to buy. Simply put, I'm running out of ideas and resources. The darn thing is being made... It's in their Rossi 2010 catalog (not to be confused with the Legacy Puma which is discontinued, likewise the plain .45 which is readily availible) just apparently nobody elses.

So if there's a hint of desperation here, it's because I'm slowly going crazy trying to find this thing. Would anybody have any resources or advice in how I might want to get one of these wonderful lever rifles?

Panzercat, I believe Steve Young, aka Nate "Kiowa" Jones here on the board can order one for you, and slick it up for you too. Give him a pm. Link: http://www.stevesgunz.com/ You can also e-mail him: steve@stevesgunz.com

May sound too obvious, but if you haven't yet, Google Rossi 454 for sale. A number of possibilities from not the usual suspects shows up. You may have already chased these down, but if not give it a try. Also try substituting "Puma" for "Rossi" and maybe even "92," "Legacy" or "LSI" as well--various combos. You may have mentioned, but Bud's is showing one. May be just another "order..." situation, I don't know. Just doing the obvious Google has yielded several hard-to-find guns for me--some from individuals--not showing up on the usual sites. Good luck!

I guess it had to be suggested at some point and that was one of the first routes I took a few months back. I think i have every post concerning this rifle memorized by now because of it  So far, nothing, but i appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks! Looks like his 92s are sold in the "popular calibers" which worries me a bit, but i'll drop him an email anyway. Best lead I've got in a month or so :)

I feel your pain. The normal outlets have, for months, been out of BFR 7.5" 45-70 and Marlin 357 Cowboy. It's as though they're not being made for some reason.

Panzercat, PM not working (on my end) for me today...so just emailed you a possibility.

I should add that I echo your frustration...in general, the normal Rossi outlets in Arizona--maybe elsewhere--have turned worthless for virtually any 92s, if a comprehensive (and I mean...) search for a friend a month ago is any indication. A year or so ago they were all awash with dozens of the current Braztechs and left over LSIs. Now--zippo. Maybe just a sign of the bad economic times, but I sense other mis-or-mal_____ (fill in blank) as well.

It seems supply hasn't caught up with demand yet. A local shop priced one for a friend for under $500 out the door, but the distributors don't have any in stock.

If you'd settle for a blued one, I think Gander Mountain in Greenwood, IN has a couple.

And please consider that all gun companies don't make all/any of their guns all the time - they are made in production runs, that may be large or small, depending upon the company, the specific demand, and the availability of materials.

Some very popular guns, which have sales projections in the hundreds of thousands, may well have weekly production runs; while a more esoteric offering with a somewhat more limited demand (not everybody wants a .454, as hard as that may be to believe ;) ) may only have one or two small runs per year.

THEN, divide the spoils amongst those in the pipeline, who've previously contracted to floorplan a portion of each run - and there will be a paucity of some specific models.

IOW, make hay while the sun shines, and grab ANY .454 M92, until the one you want comes available - which it may not, for a very long time, indeed.

Blue, blue everywhere, but not a stainless to shoot
Even good ol Steve is backlogged 6-8 months in procurement and work, but darn, he has one of the most thorough email responses I've gotten so far.

Heh. Yeah, sort of figured that as I got strike after strike.

Heh, Y'know... If Rossi/Taurus makes that Circuit Judge in 454, I'd drop this search in a heartbeat. It's an irrelevant design, but I love the backwards engineered rifles.

Wait, forget I posted the non levergun here

Thanks but most of that is a copy and paste I have saved in my email drafts. FWIW I have had several on backorder since Febuary. So as Pete44u wrote they do batches but I figure they will have more available before the end of the year.

Swing and a miss for Gander Mountain. Only .45LC, 44 and 357.
Bah. Maybe it's time to move on to something else :|
