New Member here - HOWDY!
Hello,
I have been lurking on this website for quite a while and I have gone through all of the pages of this forum throughout the last few weeks. There is a LOT of good information on this site! The members here are VERY helpful.
I have an interest in several types of firearms including lever actions, single action pistols, bolt action rifles, submachine guns and suppressors. I refinish guns that need Parkerized, molycoated, Cera-Koted or KG Gun Coated. I don't do any bluing. I am considering having a lever gun hard chrome plated for hunting but not yet sure.
I grew up in Dodge City, KS, lived in South Dakota for 5 years and now live just south of Wichita, KS in Haysville. I work as a Accountant and also teach the KS Concealed Carry class and work as a Class 3 firearms dealer and refinisher. I don't have much yet to contribute to this board as you guys are much more knowledgeable on the particulars of lever actions than I am. I did get Steve Young's video and a box of springs, mag followers, sights, etc to begin cleaning up some lever guns (mostly Rossi's). I am having fun smoothing out and tuning these guns up. I appreciate all of the help I have found on this board.
My interest in lever guns has focused mostly on Winchester 9422's, Winchester 1892's, Browning B92's, Rossi M92's and Marlin 1894 and 1895's. My Dad has a Ithaca 72 Saddlegun that I grew up shooting in the 70's and it kind of got me started into lever actions.
I look forward to continuing to learn from you guys and if I feel I can add anything to any posts I will contribute my two cents.
I adopted the handle, KSFlatheadhunter, because I love to fish for Flathead Catfish.
Thanks,
Darin (KSFlatheadhunter)

Re: New Member here - HOWDY!
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!
Did you ever fish the Lincoln Street Bridge? Sounds like you might have been pretty close since you lived on Harry. I go out and fish that bridge once and a while late at night for catfish. You should not be missing anything here at moment due to our nasty temperatures. It has been around 104 to 109 for maybe 2 weeks. Indiana might be a tad cooler, hopefully!
Take care,
Darin

Welcome. I am a 95 fan myself. Lots of good info here and good people too. And, well there are some others too, funny boys you know what I mean? Read some of Blaine's posts and you'll get the idea.
Anyway is your 95 an original?

Welcome........
Those Flatheads are a handful when they get big.
When I was stationed at Fort Riley in the 80's we used to limbline
flatheads on Chapman Creek. My biggest was 52#, small compared to
some of the fish I've seen.
Again, welcome to the forum. There are some very fine folks here.

That flathead in your picture is MUCH bigger than any I have landed. My day job is at Cessna Finance Corporation. I hope we can keep financing Cessna airplanes and Bell helicopters! You must be feeling more heat in OKC than we are. I was done there two weeks ago to look at a MINT Pre Dealer Sample HK MP5. Gun was in EXCELLENT shape. I hope to acquire it soon.

Shooting suppressed firearms is addictive!
When I went to testify before the KS House Committee that introduced our Class 3 Firearms bill, some committee members couldn't understand why anyone would want/need a suppressor. I spent 6 or 7 minutes describing all of the positive attributes of them from the LE Officer Safety perspective to the quiet training of new shooters in a less intimidating environment. By the end of the hearing we had several committee members wanting to purchase their own suppressor if the bill became law.

Some BIG flathead up around Fort Riley! Does Chapman Creek dump into Tuttle?
I haven't landed a 52 pounder yet so I haven't experienced that thrill yet. I biggest limbline so far is only 9 pounds and it was caught on a green 1/4" limb. I never thought the limb would hold a decent fish but my line running buddy swore it would. He was right. I can't wait to get a bigger one but the 9 pounder dressed real nice and helped feed my wife, 4 kids and myself one night!
Thanks,
Darin

Hi BwanaDave,
No, my 1895 is a 10 year or so old Marlin .45-70 Guide Gun. Nothing too old at the moment that I own. I do have my Dad's old 92 SRC .44 WCF trapper to drool on for a short while before I bring it back to him. It is only on loan for temporary drool purposes.
Thanks,

Darin,
Chapman creek feeds into the Smoky Hill River south of Fort Riley and
Junction City. Flatheads are strict carnivores, will not take stink baits like
Channel Cats will. Yep, they are tasty too.

Spaceman,
Yes, that might explain why some think flathead taste better than channel cat. I think they are both tasty when prepped well!
