Bolt Action Scope Question

Post by cessnapilot »

Picked up a new ( to me ) Remngton 799 in .223. It's a nice light rifle and I'd like to keep it that way. It'll be used for plinking, targets and the occasional varmint. I'm kind of partial to Leupolds but open to anything. Was thinking about that Leupold Rifleman 2-7 33. Would really rather have a 3-9 but don't want to get overweight. So what do the experts on board think? Any opinons one way or the other? Thanks in advance for the consideration.

The 2x7x33 is a fine scope and you will be happy with it on that rifle, especially with weight being your guide.

I love scopes like that; i.e. ocular end same size as objective end.

The scope on my .270 WCF Model 70 is similar to the one you mention: it's a 2-8x Burris Signature. I've never felt under-scoped with it.

Leupold 4x Compact is light and trim. Excellent glass too.

Thanks, Tom

There is also the Leupold 3x9 Compact. I used one for years on my main deer rifle. You give up a little low light performance and eye relief but I never had a problem in legal shooting light. Nice light little scope.

Not much difference in 7x and 9x. If size is a consideration, then I would agree that the 2-7-33 is a good choice. I've got a couple of them in the Rifleman series and have found them to be good, trouble free scopes with decent glass.
