need forearm puma 92

About 3 years ago I bought a LSI 92 357 mag and life was good. It has sat in the safe most of its life and has around 80 rounds through it. I pulled it out Saturday to take it shooting and noticed that the forearm had developed a crack the full length of it. This happened just sitting in the dark in the safe. I called LSI Who sent me to Sports World in Tulsa OK because they do the warranty work. They want me to send in the whole rifle to replace the forearm even after I expressed the desire to just have a forearm sent which I would replace myself. NO WAY!!!Now I have to dole out money to send in the rifle and hope they don't mess up the action job like so many Companies do now a days. I'm tempted to just leave the forearm cracked or try to find a source for a forearm I can replace myself. Any ideas where to get a Model 92 barrel band forearm???

Call them back and ask to buy a forearm. They will send it to you and you can install it yourself. I don't let anyone touch my firearms. If it needs fixin, I do it myself.

J Miller, COSteve and Griff, thanks for the tips and the lead on the forearm. I will give Rossi a call tomorrow and see what they want for one then decide which one to get. The forearm at Precision Gun Works looks like the right one. I bought the rifle from a well know gun shop on the internet and never got any paperwork with the rifle from my FFL. He is very good about making sure all the paperwork is handed over so I think that none was supplied. I have no idea of how long LSI considered these under warranty. I had to dig through the box and only found their web address on the outside of original box it shipped in. I am thinking they will say 3 years is past their warranty period. Sent Nate K J an email and hopefully he has some helpful information as well.

I called Rossi this morning and they would not sell me a forearm since it was sold by Legacy Sports Int. I guess everything is completely different between legacy's Rossi's and Braztech-Rossi guns????? I will have to call Precision Gun Works to be sure their forearm is correct.

I'll bet there's not enough difference between a Rossi, LSI, or any other Rossi made carbine forearm to matter. They're just being jerks.
Try this; get a Rossi parts schematic and just order the part, don't tell them what you're going to put it on. I do that with Ruger when I order parts for Old Models.

Before you spend a lot of $$.¢¢ on a new forearm, try this.
The reason that forearm split is probably because it dried out and shrunk.
Then because it became too tight on the barrel or magazine tube it just cracked.
So, here is what I was told: Remove the forearm, then spread the crack open as much as you can without making it worse and put some really watery super glue in the crack. Clamp it shut and let it cure. When it's cured you'll have to refit the forearm on the barrel and probably the mag tube as well. But when done properly the crack won't show too badly and a bottle of super glue is cheaper than a forearm.
I did this on both the forearm and stock on the Rossi I had. Both split.
The gunsmith that worked my Rossi over tried epoxy in the stock crack but it didn't hold. Using the super glue and then refitting it, did.
Ace hardware has several very watery super glues, including one that you use to fix loose chair and table joints.

That's what I'd try first.

I agree with Joe on the Super Glue. A good place to find the thin stuff is a Hobby Shop that sells R/C airplanes. The thin CA glue is used a lot in building and repairing the balsa wood on model planes and is much stronger than the wood when a repair is made. Also the thin stuff will actually soak in and penetrate the wood much more than an epoxy will.

My Puma had a crack in the forearm, and I used super glue on it. I very gently sanded it down and I find it hard to see now. That so far has been my one and only gripe with my Puma.

Hello Bill,
I saw your email. I do have that forend.but you should know, Because these guns are slightly different it will probably need some minor fitting and the color may not match. The precision stocks mentioned are semi inlet-ted and require about an 1/8” to be removed to fit to the gun. Then it will require finish.
If the crack is a clean break the super glue fix is the best. With super glue purchased at the model airplane hobby shop and surgical tubing I’ve repaired some that when done can’t be detected.

I restocked my Rossi, and the forend for a win mod 92 is a direct fit. check with the various parts places, Numrich arms for instance.

Also, I have one but it is for a 44 mag and too large for your 357.

I am trying the super glue fix. I also pulled the stock and stripped it and the forearm. Gave them a dark walnut oil stain and finishing with Tru Oil. Will be looking for a piece of round brass stock to make a magazine follower. Might be a good time to deal with the safety even though I rarely notice it is there.
