OT: Growing old
An oldercouple is lying in bed one morning.
They had just awakened from a good night's sleep
He takes her hand and she responds, ' Don 't touch me.'
'Why not?' he asked.
She answered, 'Because I'm dead.'
The husband asked...'What are you talking about? We're both lying here in bed
together and talking to one another!'
She said, 'No, I'm definitely dead.'
He insisted, 'You are not dead. What in the world makes you think you're dead?'
'Because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts.
Remember...
Once you get over the hill, you'll begin to pick up speed .
If it weren't for STRESS I'd have no energy at all.
Whatever hits the fan...
Will Not Be Evenly Distributed.
Everyone has a photographic memory.
Some, like me, just don't have any film.
I always know...
God won't give me more than I can handle
There are times I just wish He didn't trust me quite so much.

Never be too open-minded, your brains may fall out.
Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian.
Not any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand.
Middle age is when broadness of the mind
and narrowness of the waist change places.
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.
Junk is something you've kept for years
and throw away three weeks before you need it.
By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.
Learn from the mistakes of others.
Trust me... you can't live long enough to make them all yourself.
I've tried!!
Have A Wonderful Day!
Hold your loved ones close, tell them you love them, for if tomorrow never
comes, you'll have no regrets about today!

Growing older is not for cowards. Plantar fasciaitis, knees which sound like rice krispies in the morning, that really annoying high pitched hum from an electric motor---when there isn't an electric motor within a mile. I am 45 and already the hilltop is behind me. Maybe if I sit down more I won't go down the hill as fast.

Re: OT: Growing old
Seen a book in a bookstore several years ago. Title: Old Age Ain't For Sissies. Experienced a bunch of it in recent years with both parents dying as well as several uncles and aunts. Now, at 70, I resist ageing by continuing to do physical things I've always done. It'll take me--but not without a fight.
By the way, there are scientists (gerontologists, etc.) working on the causes of ageing. I have no doubt whatever that one day humans will live considerably longer, healthy lives through their efforts.
What causes ageing? What a fascinating topic.

Re: OT: Growing old
One of the more ironic thing is how many folks out there voraciously read all the magazines on 'staying young', and spend lots of money on supplements, etc., but will refuse to take a blood pressure pill that has a proven track record of increasing healthy lifespans, because it costs $35 a month vs. the $5 generic their insurance wants them to take, or they won't get the $81 lipid profile which gives useful information, because they'd have to pay out of pocket, vs. get the 'free' one their insurance covers, which is no more useful than random numbers. Then there's the ones who spend several hundred bucks a year maintaining their motorcycle, buy a fancy pool-table, then re-model the house to suit it, but say they "can't" have that colonoscopy at ten-year intervals, because their insurance deductible is too high, or it isn't a "covered" service...getitdone1 wrote:By the way, there are scientists (gerontologists, etc.) working on the causes of ageing. Re: OT: Growing old
I heard a saying on the subject of
age, and i think this is pretty
close.
"When one is young, they worry about
growing old...but when one reaches a certain age, They tend to worry about
NOT GROWING OLD!" (something like that i think)

When was this written, 1890? My point is, it's already happening.By the way, there are scientists (gerontologists, etc.) working on the causes of ageing. I have no doubt whatever that one day humans will live considerably longer, healthy lives through their efforts.
I really don't mind growing older, I don't miss youth a bit. Sure I wish I had more time, and, maybe a bit more energy, but most of that youthful energy went towards making a fool of myself. I've got that down to 25-30% at least. What I like is, having gone through all the choices, now I'm getting things just about how I like them.
