Help...my wife is trying to take my new levergun away!
I helped a friend out by buying his Marlin 1894CS in 357 mag/38 Spec. last week. I told my wife about it, and she said since it had been his wife's gun that it sounded like a girl's gun. I let her shoot it today and she hit her targets, said it didn't have much recoil at all, and was just her size. It was just a fun gun to shoot and she likes it. I like it too, so what should I do? I think my wife's going to benefit from my impulse buy.

Let her have it. It will be more fun that way in the long run.
Some years back my wife and I bought one and she latched on to it. During a very bad time it got sold to pay bills. She's still a bit peeved about that. But we'll get her another one.

I agree, let her claim it. You know what they say, happy wife = happy life.

Re: Help...my wife is trying to take my new levergun away!
I can think of four options:
- - - =
- 1. Get a SS .357 Marlin to match hers, if you can find one.
2. Get a Blued .357 Marlin to compliment hers, so you can tell them apart.
3. Get a SS .357 Rossi 16" just so's you have one the same but different.
4. Get a SS .44 Mag Marlin as a 'big brother' to the smaller gun.

Leave your wife's rifle alone and get one of your own!

Let her have it. It will make her feel good. Besides, you can always borrow it when you go to the range, or hunting when she's not going. My wife "owns" several guns, but that just means that she gets to shoot them the few times a year that she goes with me, and she gets to tell other people that she has them. She really only has one gun that only she shoots. She's happy that way, I'm happy that way, so it all works out in the end.

As stated a number of times it sounds like a perfect reason to get yourself one.

Ask her if she'd also like a nice single-action revolver to go with it. Feed the need!!!

You are in denial my friend. You no longer have any say in the matter so your question is meaningless. It is her rifle already.
Now would be a nice time to talk about "matching rifles".

Cornfusion say; It is better to have a wife that shoots than to have the perfect lever gun...

That's true - at least then you'll stand a chance of having some leverguns and getting to shoot them now and then...mikld wrote:Cornfusion say; It is better to have a wife that shoots than to have the perfect lever gun...

Re: Help...my wife is trying to take my new levergun away!
You guys just confirmed what I already knew. Christine likes the rifle and brought it with her today when she took our younger son berry picking. "I forgot my rifle in the car" is what she said when she saw me carrying a rifle through the living room. "Oh, I mean your rifle," while smiling her wonderful smile. She thinks it's a girls gun anyway since it was once belonged to my friend Pete's wife. I guess I'll just have to borrow it whenever I want to hunt with it or just shoot for fun.

Re: Help...my wife is trying to take my new levergun away!
At least your wife is interested ----- whenever i bring home a new toy, my wife just rolls her eyes, shrugs her shoulders and says -- "What ..... another one? You can only shoot one at a time , why do you need so many? "
to which i sometimes reply, -- "You can only carry one purse at a time, why do you need 30 of them?" darn purses cost as much as an entry level .22 nowadays too

I envy you! My wife and I have differant interest. Dont be critical over a firearm look at it that you gained a reliable hunting and shooting partner. Make it a gift to her and watch her face her respone will be worth more than the rifle.
Re: Help...my wife is trying to take my new levergun away!
something frightening about having a wife who can out-shoot you...

Take her hunting with HER new rifle. My wife killed her first deer with a .357 rifle and it does make a good ladies or kids gun.

My wife has her own guns, and she's "adopted" my 92FS until she gets her own pistol.
Let her have it.
