I am watching "The Seven Samarai" again and if you have not seen it you should. One of the greatest films from overseas for Americans.

Agreed. I don't watch it a lot, because it's pretty long, but it's always worth it. If I didn't have stuff to do tomorrow, I'd sit down and watch it.

I love the Seven Samurai!

One of my favorite movies ever.

Much more realistic than the Magnificent Seven, I thought. I liked the way the Samurai involved the village folks in their own defense.

We usually have to take a few days to watch it through.

RAN is another good one Akira Kurasawa (SP?) does King Lear. :D

And while I've never read anything to back up the theory.. I swear he got the idea for the Ewoks from "Dersu Uzala."

True. Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)" is a direct sci-fi adaptation of the Seven Samurai.

And "Fist Full of Dollars" was a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo (1961)", based on the novel Red Harvest which George Lucas gave a nod to by giving the working title "Blue Harvest" to a film later names "Return of the Jedi".
