OT - The Seven Samarai
I am watching "The Seven Samarai" again and if you have not seen it you should. One of the greatest films from overseas for Americans.

Mmm... not really. Lucas says the idea was influenced by Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress."bj94 wrote:I saw the second remake, the sci-fi version. (Star Wars)

And while I've never read anything to back up the theory.. I swear he got the idea for the Ewoks from "Dersu Uzala."

Everything I know about Shakespeare, I learned form Akira Kurosawa.JReed wrote:RAN is another good one Akira Kurasawa (SP?) does King Lear.

True. Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)" is a direct sci-fi adaptation of the Seven Samurai.cas wrote:Mmm... not really. Lucas says the idea was influenced by Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress."bj94 wrote:I saw the second remake, the sci-fi version. (Star Wars)
And "Fist Full of Dollars" was a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo (1961)", based on the novel Red Harvest which George Lucas gave a nod to by giving the working title "Blue Harvest" to a film later names "Return of the Jedi".
