OT - Y2K's home; camp didn't go too well

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Well, Y2K's Boy Scout summer camp started off well, as reported earlier. http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=28698 He left Sunday (7/18 and was supposed to be at camp until Saturday morning (7/24). We had to run up last night late and pick him up after a call from the nurse at camp.

Monday went really well. He was really enjoying all his merit badge classes, and having a lot of fun. Too much fun. He did not hydrate himself properly Tuesday, and it has been horribly hot and humid here all week (heat index above 100 each day, and never getting below mid 80's at night). By Tuesday evening he was sick and went to the medical station. They re-hydrated" him, and admonished him to drink more fluids, but the diarrhea that started only got worse Wednesday and Thursday.

Ironically, we were both hydrating ourselves a lot Wednesday morning, 90 minutes apart, for different reasons. I had to consume an 8-ounce glass of nasty thick fluid every 10 minutes until the container was gone. Clear fluid diet the day before. Some of you will recognize what this preparation is for. No fun. Anyway, it was why I wasn't at camp with him this week - along with my back issues.

Turns out it may be related though. The whole household fought a nasty stomach virus earlier this year. I've had it twice now. My doctor thinks the "issues" I've been having the last two months may be related to this, especially with my pre-existing condition (IBS).

Y2K is literally a "mini-me". I wish he had not inherited my stomach though. His Mom has one of cast iron; she can eat anything without issue. I can't - and he can't as well.

Anyway, he called around dinner last night begging to stay to complete his merit badge course, The nurse thought he should go home then. We negotiated saying we'd pick him up Friday afternoon after his last MB class, and they agreed if he improved a bit that evening. He didn't, got worse, so they called. I can't blame them; it was the right thing to do for Y2K, and they had to be concerned about the liability. We got back home about 11:00pm last night, and he's still asleep now.

I'm just glad he's home in bed, and can hopefully get on the mend.

For me, I should have results back in a week or so. Did remove some "stuff" and sent it out for testing.

If they outlaw waterboarding, I know what we can use as a replacement!

Now that Y2K is home it's just you to get fixed. I hope the 'scope' of your situation isn't too long!

God bless and a speedy recovery to all. When i was working at a medical hospital instead of mental, I had a guy I was helping to "get ready" for that same procedure. He looked at me about 2 or 3 oclock in the morning and said pointing..."I swear I ate that when I was in 3rd grade". Tom

YK,

Sorry to hear about the ills, but do take care of both of you.
As to the procedure: been there done that. I'd rather eat spinach.

+1 on that. Takes a lot of character to be harnessed to the port-a-john but still want to gut it out. So to speak....

Now that is cruel and unusual punishment. Are they doing top down, or bottom up? Neither is fun, but I'd much rather d the former again rather than the latter.

As to YK2, lots of fluids and rest, but if he doesn't improve pronto, get him to a doc. Dehydration is not something to fool with.

Boy Scout Camp!!! 35 years ago here... those were good times!! More kids need to be scouts!! Builds character, and makes em good kids.. most I knew then, all turned out good later in life!! Your kid has a BIG leg up on the "competition" as far as kids and a future go... good job for supporting that!! Never made Eagle myself.. but My nephew DID!! :)

Glad to hear Y2K is mostly well. As to your dilemma, just did that and the worst part was the reaction to drinking all that stuff. That was torture.
