Can anyone tell me about these?.......Years manufactured, specs, etc.......I bought one on Gunbroker the other night...358 Win..I've always wanted a Model 99 in this caliber and finally got one coming. Thanks in advance for any info..........Ken
The M99-358 Brush Gun, with recoil pad standard, was made from 1975-80, the M99-375 in 1980 only. (Fjestad)
From the 1980 Gun Digest :
"Similar to the Model 99CD, except has straight-gripped stock, no checkering, chambered for .358 Win, 6-shot rotary magazine with cartridge counter, no Monte Carlo, Wt. 7lbs, removable ramp front sight, folding leaf rear. Has vent. recoil pad, swivel studs, introduced 1977. $256.68 "

I have found the Brush Guns and later 99A rifles to be of good quality (not quite as good as the premillions 99s though). If you plan to scope the rifle, you will have trouble with the tang safety. It sits in a very bad place to get to once a scope is mounted above it. They are still very fine hunting arms. Please let us know how yours shoots.

Thanks fellas....I have never owned a Savage Model 99...But being an avid Winchester 88, 64, and 94 collector, and any classic deer rifle for that matter, it just felt like time to go get a Savage 99.....Had to have either a 358 or a 250/3000 to get the ball rolling on my "soon to be" Savage 99 collection....I'll be shooting this 358 by next weekend....I already have a pile of Winchester 200gr. and 250 gr. Silvertip ammo hoarded away waiting for this moment !.....I'll let ya's know how things go.....Ken

Recoil doesn't bother me...I weigh 140 lb. and I shoot whitetail doe with a 375 H&H........This "brush gun" ..does it have a carbine length barrel (under 22")? It looked short in the pictures...I have several other 358 rifles: a BLR and a Winchester 88...recoil in them seems similar to a 308......Is a Savage 99 considered an accurate rifle ?...How does it compare to the Winchester levers in terms of accuracy ?....Thanks for all the input guys !....Ken
Ken, I once posted a target here that I though was pretty good for shooting with a bean bag for a rest... and the fellas here said my 99 ought to be doing a whole lot better than that target showed!Big K wrote:Is a Savage 99 considered an accurate rifle ?
Yes, they are considered an accurate rifle.
