Rifle Range, Mon. 12 July 2010. Pic. taken from shooting bench. My target on left 50 yards.
Contrary to popular belief, yes I still own and shoot lever guns. Today I was shooting my vintage 1900 Win. 94 in 25-35 cal. rifle.
After I get tired of shooting at paper, I like to shoot at my little 1” thick steel plate target.
Looking back from 50 yard shooting frame at the shooting line and clubhouse.
Me and my old Winny 94.
1” steel plate after being hit with 3 117 gr. Rounds and a lighter cast bullet load. Wow! just can’t see these little 25-35’s ever being good for anything other than a paper hole punch.
Then it was on down the hill to the 25 yard pistol range.
Colt SA’s just seem to go hand in hand with an old lever.
Looking down the 25-yard pistol range.
86 deg. today, just had to have something to drink. Also had the range to myself this day.
Me again, shooting at all the neat little steel toys at 25 yards; and yes proudly connecting with just about every shot. O yes, using my favorite round in the .357 mag. 38 spl.+P a joy they are to shoot.
All done playing.
This can took two shoots at 25 yards. Took the top all but clean off on the second shot.
Two of my targets shot at 50 yards with the 25-35 Win. Target on the left is all but a hole in a hole.
Nothing like a day off from work and spending part of it at the rifle range.
wow... thats a pretty nice range....
a lot nicer than our public range...
We need some close up pic of your 25-35...looks pretty sweet!
I had a chance to by a carbine in 25-35 but bought the 38-40 instead...
should have bought them both....Yours is probably worth a pretty coin or two...
hang on to it........and i like the colt too....
and nice shooting too!
Wow, you have a beautiful range and some great toys, looks like a fun day.
Please, a word of caution, I see your steel target got cratered pretty bad. This makes these targets VERY dangerous to continue using, as a hit in the crater or on the edge of the crater can come right back at you. There have been several incidents of this documented, I personally know a fellow in Sacramento who lost an eye to one from 50 yards away!
Maybe it's still smooth on the other side?
Next time you are around the steel scrap yard, see if they dont have a chunk of AR500 they would sell you, your problems will be over. Also, NRA recommends no steel targets at all closer than 40 yards.

Best Regards.
It's far from smooth on the other side, a .308 at 100 yrd. did a real number on it. Thanks for the info. in reguards to the AR500 steel. I do need to come up with something better for rifle shooting. I do like to shoot at something that makes a ring when hit.
Sir,
Your right, a day at the range and on topic for a change. The board is busy, but , with BS. A great day for you & a great report for those of us who actually shoot. I have a few new ones I will report on soon.

Paul, you bring up an interesting point.
Seems there has indeed gotten to be more computer desk, gun quarterbacking
going on these days. I have noticed on the gun forums I frequent, there
is very few first hand range and hunting report topics being posted.
And that finger points back at me as well. I think a contributing factor though
is the price of ammo these days, (if you can find it).
We won’t even talk about the price for a box of 25-35 Win. Ammo. and what
each round I fired today cost me.
Very nice looking range, you obviously get a heck of a lot more water than we do.
Mind you, if our range grew grass that well we wouldn't be able to shoot at our targets for all the roos and rabbits in the way.
Thanks OS, a truly lovely pair........(of girls).

Of course OS's ladies are adorable. They always are. But I've gotta say, that is one of the nicest little ranges I've seen in a while. I belong to our local rifle and pistol club, and it's alot of fun being able to do your own thing pretty much (as opposed to more supervised public ranges).
This range you were nice enough to share pictures of, just looks like a really comfortable and fun place to shoot. Thanks for the pics and comments. - DixieBoy

Great range... don't you just love them during the week??? And the thing about steel... I love it also... a stick welder and angle grinder make history of those little craters.
