Ammo carrier

Post by gm42 »

Hey Guys,

Can you give me some reasonably priced ideas on a good ammo holder which holds approx. 40 rounds of 357 that make the ammunition readily available (worn on your person) but yet is secure so the rounds do not fall out. I have had bad luck with ammo holders that hold a large amount of ammo that do not securely hold the ammo. It can be a belt type or even a pouch type.

Thanks,

Geoff

Lever can make you a customized cartridge belt.

Personally I prefer an ammo "wallet", as they protect the rounds better. But for as many as you want to carry, it would probably be impractical to wear that many.

If you're wanting to carry that many rounds wouldn't a belt make better sense? Seems that that much weight in one place would be unhandy. Iv'e got one of El Paso's shotgun belts and it's very well made, YMMV.

I lucked out a few years back and managed to pick up some heavy leather cartridge boxes made in China. These were made to hold four of the SKS charger clips. Due to the quality I believe they were intended for some sort of dress mode. Since then I have found the East German, Russian and some other eastern block countries had cloth, Canvas and some type of rubberized material made to hold the SKS chargers. I can use these to carry up to 50 rounds of .45 colt, .44 Magnum and a bunch of 357 cartridges. As well as other sundry types of ammo. If you can check out various Surplus sales, including gun shows you might find something like these. Most will take two inch belt and will carry high and tight against your side. Most also have the advantage of being water resistant(proof) and will also carry speed loaders instead of loose rounds. Hope you can come across some. I like mine and feel they are a very neat way to carry extra ammo. Cartridge belts can cause corrosion or verdigris in some climates, the ammo pouches, lined with parchment paper (cooking isle) cut to fit in place and prevents discoloring of the ammo. Good Luck.
