OT- New owner of the cattle on the lease. Already problems.
My friend and owner of the ranch where I manage the hunting rights sold his cattle to a friend at church. He told the new owner he could lease the property and leave the cattle there. The new owner leases property all over the area for cattle. My friend told him I would help keep watch over the cattle. He will take some getting use to. He has already broke the lock on the main gate, left his three work vehicles in the middle of the barn that the hunters use as well. He's messy and troughs plastic bottles out. He should know Herefords will choke on those kinda things. The cattle are scattered all over the place. He's mad that the cattle aren't trained as well as his Angus to work. He sold my friends three bulls that were brothers and brought in a Brangus bull. I can understand that part. It's going to be a slow process but it will all work out after we have a sit down tomorrow. Getting hunters and cattleman to work together is not always easy. Wish me luck!

Hopefully good communication will take care of it. Are there any ambiguities in responsibilities and priorities of who uses faclities like the barn?

20cows, sharing is the key. I have a sign up in the barn that says "keep it clean as possible inside and out." The hunters eat and cook in the barn. Their are two other barns that were set aside for the cattle owner but they are on the other side of the ranch at times. It is according to where the cattle are. I put in a thread not long ago that the owners sold the middle, where the creek runs, of the ranch to raise money (stupid). Selling the heart of the ranch goes against all reasoning plus the idea "keep the best sell the rest". Grazing rights were kept. It will all work out because the main owner is my friend and a fair minded person. It is just my job to make a smooth transition and I can already see some bumps in the road. I want to make this as smooth as possible because my friend does not need the aggravation.
P.S. My friend loved those bulls.
He put in the contract that some orphan calves he raised can not be sold. We could argue sentimentality has no place in ranching but you and I know many times it does.

Good luck with that discussion. I hope that all parties are open and that differences can be resolved.

You can't love the land and not be sentimental about something!

Sounds like the new boss's we get at the plant every few months. They think they are smart but don't know squat.
They (like your guy) screw up a system we KNOW works. Ahhh RR7, there's a lot of land down there in Texas to lose a guy like that. Tell him to take a walk on the back forty. (where the rattlers hang out)

Nice looking cattle! Have a small place south of Goldthwaite and also own farm and pasture land in KS. I hope you and the "new guy" can get things worked out. Stay calm whatever you do, it'll darned sure disarm him! John
