Need Help in Texas (sight question)
Just bought a used Trapper 30-30. It does not have a front sight. I need to know what size to buy for a factor replacement. And what sight to buy if I want to replace with a fiber optic.
Thanks for any help.

Tru Glo makes a set for the 94 that will work with your existing rear sight or you can replace it with the one that comes with it. The whole set is $27 and it is steel with fiber optic, orange front and green rear sight dots. Cabelas sells it. It looks like it measures .360

Re: Need Help in Texas (sight question)
Thank You. And If I might ask, the rifle came with a scoop mount that I took off. I now need to find a site to buy some missing screws.
Again thanks for the sights answer.

If you have a local shop that sells and installs scopes, they will have a pile of scope mount hole filler screws. They've always just given me what I needed.

Call Winchester/Browning. All those parts are still availible from them and they are by far the least expensive (less than $20 for the lot, I recon).
Re: Need Help in Texas (sight question)
A Winchester Trapper will require a front sight blade height of about .500", FO or not.
In addition, since they are a direct mount in the barrel dovetail, not using a ramp, the proper front sight should also have a wide ("W") base, so as to fully fill the wider barrel dovetail.

The Trapper I believe is the 46W sight from Williams
Re: Need Help in Texas (sight question)
THANK YOU, this is what I was looking for. Pete44ru what site is in the pic?
Re: Need Help in Texas (sight question)
I disremember exactikally what brand the sight blade is, since it's been about 5 years since I installed that particular sight blade, and have bought/installed a dozen since then - but, I THINK it's a Williams FireSight.

Re: Need Help in Texas (sight question)
I would think twice about the fire/optic fiber sight. They do show nicely in low-light but in daylight, I find that they push your point of impact to one side or the other depending on where the sun is in the sky... which irritates me. Talking several inches left or right. Not an issue if you're only shooting out to 50 yards... but beyond that.. well could be.
Just a thought.

I have two Winchester 16" Trappers. A 1980TE and a 1985AE. Both have post type front sights. And they are "about" .500" tall.
Neither came with bead sights, the sights on them are OEM. Works great with peep sights.

Re: Need Help in Texas (sight question)
The original Winchester Trapper sight is a dovetailed post. I bought one similar to the original from GPC. Mr Tim Skinner will make you one to your specs. Find him over at Marlinowners.com With the post, you can file adjust the hieght (judicious filing) to take the greatest advantage of your rear sight.

Anyone needing '94 parts, you might want to try this site. Just placed an order, will see how it comes out.
