Winchester 9422 yellowboy

Post by rodeo kid »

I have been wanting one of these for awhile. Found a dealer who has two as nib one with box. Prices are $1699 and $1799. Are they worth that much. I know they are rare, but that seems high. What do you think?

a local gunshop that most always sells for a bit under retail (especially on used arms) had one for $1800 last time I was there.

They have apparently greatly increased in value recently. I have two Yellow Boy 22LR's, both NIB, for which I paid $900 per each, about two years ago.

Well Mudstud, since you have two, I would certainly drive up there and give you ten 100bills for one of them. Or maybe 11 or even 12.

Appreciate the offer, rodeo kid, but not looking to sell anything at this time. I might add that there are several Yellow Boys for sale on GunBroker, all priced in the stratosphere, like those you are looking at, but aren't getting any takers, yet anyway. I know that my local dealers will check GunBroker, when pricing a gun, to see what other dealers are asking, which often results in guns being over-priced, IMHO. Some of those GunBroker types are just trolling for a sucker. Good luck in your quest for a Yellow Boy! :)

I see someone has put in a bid today for $1550 on one of those Yellow Boys for sale on GunBroker! Holy sheep dip, Maynard! A fool and his money are soon parted! But, well, on the other hand, maybe, just maybe, those things have seen a huge increase in value, like, overnite. Now, that we have apparently established a market value, I may have to consider unloading mine! NOT! :D :) :D :)

Would somebody be so kind as to post a pic or a link to a pic for one of these 9422 Yellowboys? I've never seen one.

TIA

No Mudstud, that was not me. The ones I am looking at are on Guns International from Steve Barnett Fine Guns in Mississippi. I prefer that site over gunbroker. The bidding thing is not for me, just tell me what someone wants for their firearm and either I will pay it or I won't. Still thinking on these, I might wait awhile and offer him less and see what happens. I really want one but gosh, that's alot for a .22rifle. :?

I think the yellowboy 22's are interesting. I have seen two different prefix's though to the serialization which has me confused. I would probably give $1400 for one with a YB prefix or even a couple of them since they were made in a mag and longrifle also.

There were the "YBL" prefixes for the .22LR and "YBM" prefixes for the .22 Mag. Then there was also a different run with the F753XXX prefixes for .22LR, not sure if there were any .22 Mags in this series, but I think so. I just don't have any details on why there are two different series. Probably, the "YB" run was manufactured, either as Winchesters idea, or for a distributor, and the standard "F" prefix rifles were manufactured later for another distributor, or maybe the other way around! If you find out, let me know! :D

I was actually surprised to come across the YB prefixes since I had looked at many of them when they came out and only had seen the F. I have since picked up a mag but still need to get a long rifle and a second set for my father as well. I generally just collect the 94's which have either a prefix or sufix to the serial numbers, but have been known to stray a bit depending on the gun.

I recently came across a 1 of 200 9422 which has a rabbit on one side of the reciever and a squirel on the other. The serialization was standard with a special issue number 1 of 200 added elsewhere. I am somewhat baffled by this one as to who had it made up and for what purpose. If any of you lever guys could give me some insight on it I would be very happy to learn more.

Interesting, I've never seen one of those. There was a High Grade, which had a coon on the left side, with a coon dog on the right.

The 9422 in the 1979 Matched Set of One Thousand (Model 94 & Model 9422M) had gold finish, spade checkering, and engraving with a cottontail persued by a brace of beagles on the left receiver side, a gray squirrel in an oak tree on the right receiver side, and both receiver sides having decorative oak leaf & acorn motif edges.

The 9422M's had a MR SN prefix & 20 1/2" bbl; the matching SN M94's had a MC prefix & 24" bbl.
