I was on my way home from church tonight and heard on the news that Fred Thompson was at a gunshow in Lakeland, Fla this weekend. that's just a few miles from my house and that's one of the shows I'll go to when I need to go. the commentator on the news said Gun Owners of America was not overly thrilled with his appearance because Thompson was said to have voted anti gun in 14 out of 33 bills.
Does anyone know how this stacks up or if it was just the news people putting bad press on Fred. When asked to comment on the statement Thompson was said to have said that he wasn't aware of that record.

To be totally honest...I don't know.

From what I have read about ole Mr. Thompson, I kinda like his stand on most things.

Folks will skew things to what ever fills the current agenda what ever that is at this second.

As for Gun Owner's of America? In my view of things they (as a group) tend to be a bit over the top...there is no grey areas with them. You are either with them or against them. They (as a group) think the NRA has been bought out by Feinstein and like, after the last compromise.

If it were me, read the Government stats, view Fred Thompon's web site, and anywhere else you think you need to....Then make up your own mind.

Personally I don't see anyone but Fred that I could vote for. Rudy is out. If not for Fred I'd just as soon stay home.

I'm right there with yah, Man. I just hope he stays in it that long! He was slow to delare his candidacy...Compared to the rest. I hope he doesn't drop out of the running later.

At the least he might just make folks think for a minute..Think Reagan??

I think he calculated his announcement in a manner to be able to get maximum exposure and still finish out his acting season without running into problem with equal air time for the opponents. That part doesn't concern me. Gee whizz look at how early people were throwing their hats into the ring this year anyway. All they are doing is expanding the time they'll be spending money, which means they'll have to raise more of that as well. then they'll have to keep people interested for that long a period of time.

Not Cindy, but yes I do think it was a hatchet or disinformation job. The liberal (socialist really) media is totally against the 2nd Amenment.

That is the good parts. There is no compromise with them. With the NRA we always loose, the anti gunners win. List all or any of the anti-gun laws the NRA has worked to repeal since the Republicans have had the white house and congress? You'll come up with a bit "0". At least the GOA is fighting to get them repealed. The NRA is a great organization for shooting sports education, but their politics stink. They are compromising our rights away as fast as they can.

Nope, the NRA has been involved in every federal anti gun law since NFA 34.
Feinstien and Schumer and Kennedy are newbees to the anti gun scheme.

Support the NRA as a shooting sports educational organization if you want, but if you want to keep your guns support the GOA and JPFO.

If you didn't hear an officer of the GOA actually say it, it might not even have been said by them. Sounds like a disinformation act to me.

You don't have to be Jewish to join. I did and I'm not. This makes 3 pro-gun organizations I support: NRA, GOA, JFPO. I'm also a Tennesseean and will support Fred Thompson, Again!

I like Fred. In fact I told my wife once when he was in the senate that I'd move to Tn. just so he could represent me.

He did really good as I recall until there was one senate subcommittee hearing and I can't even remember what it was about, but he was asking some very poignant questions. Then all of a sudden he just didn't do anything after the session was over and a short while later he didn't run any more. It was almost like someone got to him and sent him a message or something.

His daughter died. I don't remember the circumstances but that seems to be the reason for his not running again and may have been about the time you are referring to.

Makes me think that Hunter will show up as most in line with thinking no matter what you answer in the survey. I would be curious if others got Hunter as a result.

I ran it twice, changing a couple of items slightly between the two. Once came up Ron Paul, one came up Mike Huckabee. A friend ran it and he came up with Fred Thompson. Now, how they score it? I don't know, but what you enter DOES influence your results.

They tell you how they score it. Looks on the up and up to me. I got Tancredo and Thompson in a tie for me at 93.1%. I'd like to see Junior's results.

I think the difference between Huckabee and Thompson is Huckabee is a little more conservative. Huckabee did a good job as Gov of Arkansas. He is my top choice. If he gets in I think he'll be a President that makes the liberals really hate him.
