OT.. Humor- California vs Texas

Post by Bearhands »

California vs. Texas
Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A
coyote jumps out and attacks dog.

California :

#1. Governor starts to intervene, reflects upon the movie "Bambi"
and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is only doing what is
natural.

#2. He calls animal control. Animal control captures coyote and
spends $200 testing it for diseases and $500 upon relocating it.

#3. He calls veterinarian. Vet collects dead dog and spends $200
testing it for diseases.

#4. Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for
diseases from the coyote and on getting bite wound bandaged.

#5. Running trail gets shut down for 6 months while wildlife
services conduct a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is clear
of dangerous animals.

#6. Governor spends $50,000 of state funds implementing a "coyote
awareness" program for residents of the area.

#7. State legislature spends $2 million investigating how to better
handle rabies and how to possibly eradicate the disease.

#8. Governor's security agent is fired for not stopping the attack
and for letting the Governor intervene.

#9. Cost: $75,000 to train new security agent.

#10. PETA protests the coyote relocation and files suit against the
state.

Texas :

#1. Governor shoots coyote and keeps jogging. Governor has spent
$0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point cartridge. Buzzards eat dead
coyote.

I originally posted it in the "politics" forum to avoid confusion on moderator's part. It was only humor, but some would say it is politically motivated. Regardless, the truth can be said using humor as a method of getting a point across. :)

Governor Perry actually had a laser equipped .380.
Also, Texas law specifically states that if a dog or coyote is attacking, has attacked, or is going to attack a domestic animal, the owner or owner's agent can kill the dog or coyote. Vernon 822.

UPDATE: Found the specific statute. It's Vernon 822.013. Summary: This Texas statute provides that a dog or coyote that is attacking, is about to attack, or has recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowls may be killed by any person witnessing the attack or the attacked animal's owner or a person acting on behalf of the owner if the owner or person has knowledge of the attack. A person who kills a dog or coyote as provided by this section is not liable for damages to the owner, keeper, or person in control of the dog or coyote.

 And then if the Department of Wildlife gets involved, imagine the fun. Now on a serious note, good for Governor Perry, I would shoot a coyote attacking my dog, too.

Governor's showdown spurs 'Coyote Special' pistol
By JIM VERTUNO

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry's showdown on the jogging trail has spurred a gun maker to sell a "Coyote Special" edition of the weapon he used to take down the varmint. Perry himself has one of the pistols.

The governor shot the coyote that he said was threatening his daughter's puppy with a Ruger .380-caliber pistol. Manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. has now come out with a version emblazoned with "Coyote Special" and "A True Texan" on the sides.

On top is a picture of a coyote howling at the moon and five-pointed star of Texas. The box says it is "For Sale to Texans Only."

"They're very hot," in the few weeks they've been out, said Joe McBride, owner of McBride's Guns in Austin. Perry is a frequent shopper there and a photograph of him posing with McBride hangs in the business office.

The gun sells for about $340. A laser sight — like the one Perry uses — will cost about $180 more.

McBride said he didn't have specific sales figures, but a salesman said four had been sold before the lunch hour Monday.

"Our governor can outshoot your governor. That's what I like to tell people from out of state," said salesman George Gibbons.

...if coyotes are carrying pistols now we all need to be prepared.
