Brand new Rossi 92 - bolt face marks primer...
I have an issue similar to the pics in this thread:
http://thefiringline.com/forums/show....php?p=3795673
But not as pronounced. Namely, the bent-line scratch and wide scuff on nearly every primer of the 100 rounds I fired this weekend.
Is this a known issue, or should I send it to Rossi?? Or should I send it to the gunshop I bought it from (internet sale). I just took the gun out this weekend and its very accurate so I am loathe to ask for another gun, but I defer to wiser men and/or women than I.
What say you?

LOOK AT THE BOLT FACE AND YOU WILL SEE WHY. ALL THREE OF MINE, A 357, 45COLT ,AND 454 DO IT AND IT IS OF NO IMPORTANCE AT ALL IN MY GUNS. YOU MAY LET IT DRIVE YOU CRAZY, IT IS TOTALLY UP TO YOU.
AND SO IT GOES..
AND SO IT GOES..
RIDE, SHOOT STRAIGHT, AND SPEAK THE TRUTH

Not to worry. Mine do the same thing - what TERRY said...!
. . . OTOH, if it bothers you, just send me the Rossi, and I'll "check it out" for you. May take a few months, though. If it doesn't quit doing that, I'll just keep it for parts.![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: Brand new Rossi 92 - bolt face marks primer...
Oh good what a relief - I was just worried- I know primers are part of the gas seal of a cartridge and I was worried this was going to develop into a problem that would cause ruptures etc. I'm totally relieved because this baby is printing 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards out of the box.
FYI my load is Remington brass (they were out of Starline), 250 gr Speer gdhp and 10 grains for Power Pistol. Super accurate for me. I can't wait to drop a set of Williams peeps and a firesight on the front... Look out, critters!!!!
Sorry about the link - lets see if this works:

I ain't so sure. None of my 3 Rossis leave marks like this:
![Image](http://www.pbase.com/olyinaz/image/119536850/original.jpg)
I'd find that troubling. But... we have no idea of the load levels he was shooting.

Re: Brand new Rossi 92 - bolt face marks primer...
Voodoods,
olyinaz was overly paranoid and sent a perfectly good rifle back for no legitimate reason. The large mark on the primer is somewhat normal as it's just the seam between the ejector and the solid part of the breach face. My Rossi .45 Colt had the same mark. The other marks that look like a scratch probably was, but is of no consequence either.
Neither will cause any problems shooting the rifle.
What say I? Well, I'm hoping you keep it and shoot it and have a blast with it, and don't worry so much about things. That's what.
Joe

We may have a string of 'bad' ones, but all 'several' of our family Rossi's do, even with factory loads.Griff wrote:I ain't so sure. None of my 3 Rossis leave marks like this:

Both of my Puma .44Mag rifles do that. After a couple thousand rounds without any malfunctions, I forgot about it.
I also replied to your post over on Cast Boolits.

Re: Brand new Rossi 92 - bolt face marks primer...
Both my .45 Colt Rossi's do that. Like a previous poster said, it is the seams around the ejector, which lies flush. more or less, in the bolt face. Some rifles show it, some don't...
