Browning 53 question.

Hey all, last time home I picked up a purty little Browning 53 in 32wcf. I found a box of remington 100gr lfn at one of the local shops to try it out while I was waiting for brass, dies, and a mould to come in because I can't have a new toy and not shoot it lol. So now we've lead up to the issue. When I go to eject the fired round, the ejector is putting alot of upward pressure on the brass, closing about half the case mouth and then flinging the brass 10-15 ft behind me. Is there any way to tune it down a little, to be more gently to the brass, and keep the brass a little close to me. Thanks in advance for the help, I look forward to playing with her some more when I get home in three weeks....Dave

You need my DVD and ejector spring. This Rossi 92 work started about 20 years ago for the same reason. If you were into CAS just about everyone had a Rossi 92 and a few people had the 44-40 Rossi 92`s. Back then, 44-40 brass was hard to find. You had to buy new 44-40 ammo, as much as $35 a box and save the brass for reloading. The Rossi 92`s were so stiff and the 44-40 brass being thin walled (like the 32-20) , they would crush the case mouth destroying the brass. I figured out how to make them work without ruining the brass and the end results was a much smoother running gun, too. The key is tuning the ejector and extractor to eliminate this problem. A properly tuned 92 does not have this problem. BTW, your 53 is just a short tube 92.

Medicdave, I picked up one of those Browning '53's and I guess I was lucky, I don't have that problem. The action sure started out stiffer than stiff, but after cycling it umpteen million times it's slickened right up. Steve's CD is a deal at twice the price.

I put one of Steve`s springs in my 53. No more beat up case mouths . I shoot the Lyman 311008 115gr. PB bullet in mine when shooting cast. It likes them sized to .314 the same as my Uberti "73". 7 gr. 2400 makes a nice little plinking round in both guns.

Excuse me Medicdave, but Chuck, is your '53 a Winchester or Browning. I tried some Remington factory cast loads and wasn't satisfied with the results at all. I haven't slugged the barrel and I'm working on components.

Friend kimwcook , Mine is a Browning. I have fired some store bought cast 115 gr bullets,(cant remember the brand ,Meister somthing??). They leaded badly but were bevel base sized .312
My cast at .314 cast of WW and pure lead at 50/50 % don`t give even a trace of leading.
Jacketed shoot wonderfully accurate with almost any load and give one hole groups at 50 yd. using the marbles tang and factory front.
I have never in my life fired a factory .32-20 load and don`t plan to!!

It's amazing how individual guns are even in small lots like these Browning 53's. Mine loves the Remington 100gr lead loads grouping little cloverleafs at 50yds if I do my part. Component wise I have read Starline is the way to go for brass even though there back ordered till June.

Steve, I'll be ordering your dvd and springs at the end of the month when payroll comes through. Does the Browning have a plastic follower and if so will the 357 size one you sell work in the 32/20 size tube. Thanks Dave

Thanks, Chuck. I've looked at a number of cast bullets on different sights and usually with a spread of sizes. I don't want to buy a 100 lot and find out they aren't what my rifle likes. Mike w/Cast Performance has 113 gr sized .313 I think I'll order a 100 and see how they do. They'll only be a hair off of yours.

It should have a metal follower but it could be aluminum, not sure but that's still better than the plastic. I do know some of the B92's had aluminum barrel bands.
