OT, slightly - Bullet questions

Post by J Miller »

This is simple, does anyone here cast or know of a source of cast 230gr RNFP Flat Based bullets?

I've got a couple hundred .45 Schofield cases I'd like to load but I can't find the proper bullets. I don't want to use .45 ACP RN bullets as they are usually cast too hard.

What I want is something cast softish, wheel weights or 20-1 that is sized to .454". I'd like 500 of them.

Can anybody point me to a source of this? Or can anybody cast me up some? More than willing to pay a reasonable price.

Thank,

Joe

Joe - I don't remember which, but either Mt. Baldy Bullets or Montana Bullet Works casts a bullet like what you're after. Google 'em up and you'll find them easily.

I know that both of these outfits will size your bullets larger than just the standard .452 that most of the commercial casters sell.

Good luck. - DixieBoy

DixieBoy,

Thanks for the links. I checked them out and Mt. Baldy Bullets only list the RN bullets for the ACP. Montana Bullet Works do show the bullet I'm looking for, but the price is more than I can afford now. Save some pennies, and keep looking.

BigSky,

Thanks for this link. It just might do the trick. Google might be my friend, but I'm search challenged. Never could find the right words.

www.pennbullets.com also has them. I've gone through thousands. He used to set up a the local shows.

The site can be a little frustrating to navigate. Go to "bullet specs" and then to what dia. your looking for.

Jason,

I just checked their site and found a 230gr RNBB and a 225gr TCBB, both for the ACP without crimp groves. I didn't see anything like a 230gr RNFP. Could be I'm just blind.

http://www.cheycast.com/catalog.htm looks like they have 200 and 250 grain bullets sized to .454

I buy bullets from ^^^ and I they don't seem too hard. I think the last time I had one or his and another local company's bullets compared, his were 11 and the other guys were 8. I kept having leading issues when I was pushing the bullets with 10gr unique, switched to the harder bullet and have had no further issues.

bulldog1935 and Hanzerik,

Thanks for the links, but these are not what I was looking for. I was looking for the 230gr RNFP cowboy type bullets, not the RN ACP type or 200 or 250gr bullets. I know, they weigh the same and are the same caliber, but they aren't the same.

Also I have found what I want at the place BigSky gave me:

Sorry Joe,

I was thinking the TCBB. I've shot a bunch out of the 45 Colt. Forgot to mention that it did'nt have a
crimp groove. I put a slight crimp just below the shoulder.
