OT - Bath Remodels Bite!

Post by L_Kilkenny »

My lord has it been a long weekend. Started remodeling our one and only bathroom on Friday night. 4P-10P on Friday, 8A-11P on Sat, 8A-11P on Sunday (Happy Easter), 9A-6P on Monday. All new electrical, plumbing, (pex and pvc drains), waterheater and new locations for all equipment (tub/shower, stool and vanity). Finally had a stool at 9:40P on Sunday night and everybody was able to take a long shower last night. I was far too hard on my help, God Bless my wife she was great help. Neighbor Mike helped all day Saturday and 1/2 of Sunday. Couldn't of done it without him.

Overall it's about 90% done. Still have some paint, trim and a window to rebuild but it's all down hill from here.

Ugly job when You have only one. The only way I will touch anything major in it is if the Wife is safely far away for at least a week :o . I think of it as the little room of Horrors. Glad You are gettin it buttoned up.

I hear ya LK. I've been remodeling our guest bath for a while now. New tub, new wall tile at the tub alcove, all new plumbing, remove and replace floor tile, relocate linen closet from hallway to bathroom, new light fixtures, new vanity, new counter-top and new linen closet face-frame and shelving.

I'm building all of the millwork myself with the exception of the raised-panel doors.

DIY is great unless you have an ambitious spouse with expensive tastes!

next thing you need to do is block all the "Home Improvement" channels on your cable box. Those things make women go nuts with wild ideas.

Congratulations. Having been through two bathroom remodels, one DIY and one contracted, I'll have to say that it is trumatic either way you do it.

I agree with you LK. I'm on the 2nd bathroom because of mold / mildew issues. You have my sympathy.

I feel your pain and mine was a simple retile and changing of the vanity. Unfortunately I picked that day to quit smoking as well...
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.

I'd rather be locked in a room with a meth addict going through withdrawals.

I actually enjoy the work and the end result, I just wish there was an end to the projects.

Sounds like you will have to go back to work to get some rest.

You have no idea how many times that phrase crossed my mind during the day. Along with many other not-so-funny things...

Well, we pawned the kids off on grandma for Sat. and Sunday and Julie was amazingly good about the "outdoor experience". She did make 3 or 4 parts runs through out the weekend which put her near restrooms and helps to have 4 acres and we do a lot of river camping.

We just finished up having our master bathroom remodeled as well. I ended up having someone do it. I know my limitations, and though I could have probably done some of the work, it would have taken me months! Figured I was doing my part to help the construction trade.

I'll post some before and after photos as well. Cool thread! 8)
