Source for .25-20 Brass?

Anybody got a source for .25-20 brass? I just bought a Martini Cadet chambered for the .25-20 and I've struck out everywhere I've looked for brass. I'd like to find 250 or even 500 new cases, which would give me a lifetime supply. I'd also like suggestions for bullets and load data, particularly for cast bullets. This is going to be a plinker and small game rifle, with an emphasis on eastern woodchucks.

Don't mean to patronize but are you sure its 25-20? It might be 25-20 Single Shot. Which is entirely different...

I had to do some serious scrounging for .25-20 brass. i have a rebarreled cadet rifle as well.

I've been using a 70 grain LRN gas check bullet around 1400 fps. For my rifle, if I hot rod it accuracy goes to pot.

2ndovc: That's a really nice looking little .25-20. The figure in the butt is quite nice. Where are you getting the 70 grain cast round nose bullets? Or are you casting them yourself?

I hadn't thought of Buffalo Arms at all and I'm not a member of the Marlin owners site (although I do own a 336A .30-30 and a 39A and used to own a 336 .219 Zipper). I'll have to study that load data a bit, as it seems hotter than anything I've found in the reloading manuals.

O.S.O.K.: Yes, I'm sure about the chambering. It's clearly the .25-20 Winchester, not the .25-20 Single Shot.

What? I thought that that stuff was everywhere, but guess it no longer is. Last time I bought 500 pieces was a dozen years ago. It's a good thing that it can be reloaded forever, with 15-20 times per case. I use 'em in both my Winchester and Remington carbines.

I have a couple old Cramer molds for a 70 and 100 grain LRN gc's.
My Grandfather was a big .25 cal guy that owned several .257 Roberts and .250-3000 Savage rifles.
He was also a big time caster and handloader. I ended up with a lot of his stuff. Along with the molds and several thousand bullets.

25-20 is a necked down 32-20. 32-20 brass seems to be more available.

If you can't find 25-20 brass, buy some 32-20, which is more readily available and just run them through a 25-20 FLS. I've been doing that for 35 years when my 25-20 supply runs low.----------Sixgun

IIRC, I purchased Starline .25-20 brass from MidwayUSA a couple years back. This is special-run stuff, so it is not available all year long, like .32-20 WCF brass, as you've discovered. I have heard that Starline brass is the best; it has thicker walls and tends to last longer. Good luck!

I've been using Starline .32-20 brass and Imperial sizing die wax.. Be gentle,size a little, wipe the lube on the neck with your finger and go again. To me, it's worth the effort to use Starline for .32-20, .25-20 and .218 Bee. The last Remington .25-20 was pretty sorry stuff... BTW, I have to anneal after .25-20 to get down to .218 Bee. My little ,218 Bee is below. I have another action and some wood but haven't decided whether to build .256 Win. or .32-20.

The thickness of the brass has no bearing on how long it last . My TN 222 the necks are turned to 6 thousands thick and the same 10 piece of brass has worn one barrel out and is on it second barrel now . My 44-40 brass , which are thin new , has over 85 reloads on them in the last 14 yrs of SASS/CAS shooting without 1 case lost or failure .. My Starline 357 brass has split 2 case out of 100 on the 1st firing , and they were not hot rod loads and that brass is thick . So brass thickness is not a big deal .
