Winchester Mod 92/13 w/factory threads for silencer

Post by hondo44 »

Currently there is a Winchester Model 92 lookalike up for auction on Gunbroker Item number 160783429 listed as "Winchester 1892 Rifle 25-20 Adapted for Silence",
SER. # 789789 MFG 1914.

The tang is stamped Model 13 and it looks all factory correct. It has factory cut threads on the end of a 24" barrel with a thread protector cap screwed on. I understand these are rare but were supplied by Winchester back in the day. But I have never seen this Model 13 tang stamp and I can not find any reference to it in the Maddis Winchester book or on'line. If you go to the auction number site above, you will see good clear pictures of the rifle including up close photos of the tang stamp and barrel threads. As hard as I tried I could not make it into a model 92 or 53. Any information about the Model 13 would be appreciated.

Jim, I just looked at the pics. It looks like a very light strike "Model 1892" (and possibly wear), with only the 1 and part of the 8 being visible in the picture. Some of it may be the lighting in the pic also. If you look carefully, you can see the vary faint "92" at the tail end of the model stamping.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

I agree. It looks like Maxim's 1/2x20 thread. One could get a Maxim silencer via USFA and/or Yankee Hill Machine Works.

Years ago when jack first had "The gunshop" in lancaster california, he had many american made rifles he had brought back from england. They were guns sent over for the war when people were asked to donate them to save england. Jack went over and got many and sold them in his shop. Many were threaded for silencers in england.

I have dealt with this seller before. If anyone contemplates buying this rifle and has any questions, feel free to PM me for my experience, which you may find very helpful.

Thanks Booger Bill, I often wondered what became of the many guns donated by Americans to support the UK during the war.

This guy is a MORON!! I'm sick to death of seeing both Calvin's white shoes and his fooled with seriously bad guns. He constantly re-lists his junk, in some cases a few years. Stay as far away from that seller as you can.

That's Maxim adapted, I had one and they are nice. In 22 lr with subsonic you can hear the firing pin fall. The larger calibers are a little louder and if you don't shoot subsonic you still get a bullet crack.
