chiappa/cimarron ladder sights - updated with pictures

Post by B-92 Steven »

Bought a Cimarron model 1892 S.R.C. with ladder sights. I am about to embarasse myself, but I don't know how to use them. Please be kind enough to help a novice. Thank you.

Adding pictures per moderators request.

Not much to using them.
If they are built correctly and the front sight is close to proper, and the ammo you shoot is at factory ballistics, then when you stand the sight up, when you put the slide on say 200 then the poi should be very close at 200 yds.

Hey there B-92 -- Pretty much what Don said. You can use the leaf with the ladder folded down (laying flat on the barrel) for general purpose and closer shooting. Stand the ladder part up and adjust the slide to a desired range and get to blasting (the famous "chicken dance" scene in Lonesome Dove). I find they aren't as accurate in their repeatability as a screw adjusted tang sight, but they will get you close. Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind

Congrats on your 1892!
I have the Cimarron "ElDorado" model 1892.
Shot it for the first time this past weekend and was really surprised with the accuracy.

Very nice guns.
Enjoy yours! :)

very nice photos.
the ladder sight turns your lever gun into an artillery piece - get that nose up for long Hail Mary shots.
