Tell me about the Browning BLR takedown......

Post by Harry O »

The local gunshop has one in .358 Win. that is NIB at a reasonable price (even though the price has not come down, it has been there long enough that the price seems reasonable now). It has been calling my name for a while now.

The only problem is that it is a takedown. I once owned a Savage 99 takedown in excellent condition. It felt like it locked up smoothly and solidly, but had poor accuracy. I tried several things, but was never able to improve the accuracy much. I believed (without any proof) that it was because of the takedown feature. I got rid of it.

How accurate is the Browning takedown compared to a fixed barrel version?

Last summer, I bought a BLR synthetic/stainless takedown in .325 WSM. It is one of the most accurate rifles that I own, and own a few. Other posts here have also attested to the accuracy of BLRs. Although I only own this one BLR, I doubt that there is an accuracy difference between these and the solid frame models, due to the way that the bolt locks up to the barrel.

There is no difference between the two and both are accurate. Do a search for BLR or Browning on this site and you can get a lot of information. I have two BLR takedowns and will probably get more.

I have a good friend that has a stainless 308 take down. Shoots just like my standard 308. Those BLR's just keep on hitting Bulls eyes no matter the caliber, or configuration.
