What Bullet Profile do you like in your Marlin 1894 .357?
Semi wad cutters cycle ok, but not as smooth as I'd like. Are round nose safe to use or what would be better?

I use semi wadcutters. Think they are 148grn. No problems in 38 brass either.

Semi wadcutters are cast at 158 grains, wadcutters are cast at 148 grains and usually will not feed from the magazine. Round nose type of bullets feed better.

I hear you but I've found the RNFP bullets like Lee puts out in 158 (actually 162) grains gives me the best of both worlds. Adequate ogive for the feed ramp and a nice big flat meplat so there's no potential for nasty things happening in the magazine upon recoil. Be sure and use factory crimp or profile crimp in that 357 though!

Round nose are safe. It depends alot on the gun and where the lifter stops. If it stops shy of the chamber SWCs usually wont chamber smoothly. I'm lucky, mine feeds anything 'cept wadcutters and it'l feed those if I jiggle it around a bit.

I think you are right, they are 158grain bullets.
So far I have shot around 300 rounds of the above without any problems.

The 1894C I had, about 10 years ago, really liked the Remington 180 gr. RNFP JSP .357 cartridge. It cycled semi-wadcutters and Winchester Cowboy .38 sp just fine also.
