Finished with the rebounding hammer convert

I finally finished the rebounding hammer convertion on my Winchester 94. I waited months for Numrich to get a sear in stock. I still need to go out and shoot it. I have a question that I think I know the answer to. After the trigger is pulled and the hammer falls, the lever is lowered to cycle another round. Just as you start to pull the lever down, the locking bolt also goes down. At this time the hammer continues forward and rests on the breech bolt. This all seems pretty normal but it looks as though the hammer goes too far forward. I was afraid the hammer spring guide rod was going to come out, but it doesn't. Here are a couple of pictures to show what I mean.

It cycles just fine but the first time I did it I thought parts were going to go flying around inside. The new hammer and trigger have a purple color to them but I can live with it. I've never had a Winchester with a half cock hammer before, so is this normal?

Something doesn't look right. What hammer did you end up using? I have switched to pre-64 tangs, post-64 flat mainspring tangs and coil mainsprings, but I've never had one expose the inards behind the hammer like that.

Did you use the rebounding hammer with a half-cock action? (That's what it looks like).

Looks like the hammer is way forward because the lever is part way open. That is not right. a miss match of parts!

It looks like a leaf spring hammer with a coil spring. The hammer should look like this one:

Tony,

The reason your hammer is moving farther forward than a standard 94 does is here:

If you'll look at my pic and follow the little wire inside the action you'll see a small shelf like cross piece.
On the old style action that piece stops the hammer from going too far forward when the locking bolt drops down. However on the rebounding hammer models they narrowed this cross piece to make room for the rebounding hammer action parts.
I have this same thing on my AE Trapper. I just ignore it and keep shooting.

Tycer, those are the exact parts I used. I researched the mod quite a bit before doing it. I matched each part to the pictures as I aquired them.

I'll have to look at Puzzle Two and see if it does that with the hammer all the way down when dropping the lever.

I haven't noticed this before because I always leave the hammer at half cock as this makes the initial movement to cycle the action easier and smoother. (I haven't looked at it in the middle of a multiple shot string).
