OT - Buried a brother today.
Well, I've stayed away from this on purpose because it wasn't over (burial). Our department lost it's first deputy in a line of duty death. He died in a car crash last Sunday that's still under investigation. We had the memorial and grave site ceremony today and I'm beat. The deputy was truly a good guy. I'm not saying that just because of the situation, but because he was. His son is also a deputy with us and it's going to take our department a long time before it smooths out. The Governor spoke and actually sounded sincere in her emotions talking about the loss. The turn out was phenomenal. The brotherhood is something I'm proud to be a part of, but I don't like something like this to bring us together. The support from the community was great. Most people pulled over during the procession and a lot of them actually got out of their vehicles and either held their hands over their hearts or saluted. Don't mean to bring a downer, but I feel this forum is more like family than some of my real ones.

Hard when that happens to anybody that you care about. Just seems so senseless.

I feel for you brother, you have my condolences. I've been there too. Though I've been out of police work for a while, we lost an officer when I was a patrolman for a small city. He was killed when the car being chased by a State Trooper lost control at a road block and struck him. I was amazed at the number of law enforcement officers from all over the state that showed up for the services. It's a sight to behold and one I'll never forget.

Law Dawg,
I feel for you. Law enforcement guys really stick together, unlike the idiot union "brothers" I work with. Sorry to hear of things like this.
Just watch your back as we don't to hear of you gettin' blitzed.--------------Sixgun

My sincerest condolences for you and your department. The death of a brother officer is always hard to deal with. Hopefully your Sheriff will bring in a CIS team, but I think you'll find your biggest support team will be your department "family".

Re: OT - Buried a brother today.
I sincerely thank you for the thoughts and support. I was pretty drained after getting up at 0500, getting in my class A's. Which I haven't worn in about 10 years. Then attending the services at the memorial and grave site, getting home at about 1600 hours.
The past six months have been just crazy with the losses to law enforcement. People pulling up and shooting at cops that had nothing to do with their current lot in life. Just in the State of Washington in the last six months we've had two officer's shot by uninvolved parties after giving someone a traffic ticket. One officer died, his trainee will live. Four officer's shot and killed having coffee in a coffee shop getting caught up on paperwork before shift. None of these officer's had even met the murderer before. Two officer's shot, one died and the other will live after responding to a domestic violence call and offering the guy a ride. Same type situation just happened in Anchorage with someone shooting an officer as he was parked. The only motive they have at this time is because he was a cop and he was there.
It's getting awful western out there. When society starts attacking the people that try and maintain law and order it can't be too far behind that society itself takes a really big hit.
I've said this before, people are responsible for their own safety first and foremost. So everyone, especially the people who congregate here, need to re-focus their awareness on their surroundings and don't get caught unawares.
Thanks for lending an ear.

Law Dawg,
I hear what your saying. Society has become way too violent. Here, in the East cop shootings happen all the time. Eight were KILLED in Philly in the last 14 months. Many others were shot and wounded with the latest being today and another one last weekend. All the shooters were "brothers" too, but another kind.--------------Sixgun
