OT: The Big Picture
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Re: OT: The Big Picture
I don't tremember Cronkite as being the host. The two of "The Big Picture " narrators/hosts that I recall were senior NCO's -- 1st or Master Sergeants.
"The Big Picture" was a 1950-60's Cold War propaganda/US Army recruitment medium.
Besides the TV news, the only show that I remember Cronkite hosing was "You Are There":

Re: OT: The Big Picture
I would say that "The Big Picture" is what convinced me to join the army, to the eternal disappointment of my mother's family who'd been 'grooming' me for the navy by giving me a subscription to the Naval Proceedings since I was 8 or 9 years old. No Walter Cronkite.
I'd get up early every Sat morning and go downstairs to have the TV on when the test pattern (remember those?) went off and programming started. Watched "The Big Picture" on channel 2 from Pittsburgh then Tarzan (or some such) and then whatever around breakfast and getting dressed to go outside. 3 years later we were back in Elkins and it would be on some other time and I'd watch it then.

I remember this one. Hosted by Master Sgt. Stuart Queen. (I don't know if this was the correct spelling of "Stuart", but I know I have the name right).
