OT - What's up with Urban Meyer..?

Post by deerwhacker444 »

Has to be something serious for him to step down from the best job in college football. What are they saying on Florida talk radio, for those of you that live out there.

I enjoy college football and I'm shocked at this news.

I think Urban Meyer is a good guy and I am a Florida State alumnus (Class of 1970). What I am hearing is that he has heart problems and his family has a history of heart problems. Coaching at that level requires long hours of hard work away from your family and it comes with a high stress level. Not a good thing for someone with heart problems. He will have a press conference tomorrow.

This is the latest report I have seen:

By Craig Handel
Fort Myers News-Press

Former Dunbar High star Markihe Anderson, a senior defensive back at Florida, initially thought that Meyer was headed to the NFL when he and teammates were called to a 6:30 p.m. meeting. Then I saw the looks on the assistants faces, he said.

Meyer kept them in suspense for a bit as he talked about his life and his health concerns. When he told them he was resigning, the room turned eerily silent.

He's hurting, we're hurting, said senior defensive back Wondy Pierre-Louis, a Lely High School graduate. Tears were coming out, a lot of tears. Then (quarterback) Tim Tebow stood up and said how everyone appreciated what coach Meyer had done. Then everyone clapped. It was a big clap.

Meyer and his players hugged after his talk, which lasted about 30 minutes.

After the Southeastern Conference Championship loss to Alabama, Meyer said he was treated and released for dehydration. But players and coaches later said Meyer had chest pains. Meyer refused to talk about his hospital stay, but acknowledged he needed to take better care of himself.

"When he was talking of why he was resigning, he said his body doesn¹t know how to handle the pressure", Pierre-Louis said.

Anderson said Meyer said he wants to be around so he can watch his three children grow up.

"It's stressful for any man in that situation", Anderson said. "We understand that. He's really serious and loves what he's doing and all the kids he's recruited, so to make this decision, it has to be something really major."

"It still hasn't hit me. This is real-life stuff. He told us adversity comes every day and people have to overcome it." While Anderson said it's a sad day for Gator Nation, it's sadder for Meyer.

"l'll ask God to heal him and his family", he said. Pierre-Louis added," He made a good decision for him and his family. All we can do is support him. We may be losing him now; but we can still see him. Gators fans memories aren't just of the national championships but of the times they met Meyer."
