adjusting sights?

Post by Rusty »

My son was out sighting in some guns yesterday and when it came time to make adjustments on his superblackhawk he found that he didn't have a screwdriver small enough. I was wondering if y'all have any special advice on those small screws?

I don't know the size of those screws but I have used the tiny screwdrivers from spectacle repair kits when I did not have the proper ones.

A SET OF "JEWELERS SCREWDRIVERS" FROM BROWNELLS WILL DO YOU UP IN FINE STYLE.

Do as I have done for decades -- curse Ruger for those tiny screws, then buy 2 or 3 screwdrivers that fit, 'cause you're going to lose at least one of those per year.

Most drug stores have tiny kits containing a screwdriver for eye glass repair. Cost is maybe $2 . I have a jewelers screwdriver set that comes in handy some times. :D

WOW, There were 4 responses at the same time!! :o

PS, I work for a Stihl chainsaw dealer and every new Stihl saw comes with a tiny screwdriver to make carburetor adjustments with. Since giving the customer this screwdriver is like giving a baby a loaded gun,we throw them away by the gross.

The tip of a pocket knife blade works pretty good.

He tried the eyeglasses deal with the drug store set that he keeps in his truck anyway and the blade bent. It was Victorinox to the rescue. The little screwdriver that they make for eyeglasses is of much higher quality and did the job.

There's a Stihl dealer here in town, maybe a friendly visit to them might pay off.

The only solution is a range box to carry along a small assortment of tools, cleaning gear, target pasters, etc. Hint: Harbor Freight tool store is your friend.

Stanley makes a swell set of little drivers:

These come in handy for a lot of little jobs like removing and installing screw blanks, handgun sight adjustments, etc. They have nice rubberized grips and are well made.

I keep a set of these in my shooting box, they are a handy item, not very expensive, readily available at your local Wallyworld.

I thought we were all survivors here. I carry a Leatherman tool everyday and the smallest screwdriver tip will fit the Ruger screw. Now, when I say "Leatherman", I mean the $75 one (Wave), not the $19 junk from China.

If you have a $19 one, just pick out a screwdriver tip on it, file or grind it down to what you need and you will always be prepared to loosen a small screw, whether its a Ruger, 'Smith, Colt, your glasses, or the rear sight elevator on a levergun :D ----------------------------Sixgun

Radio Shack carries the smallest that I've seen and a whole set is just a few bucks. Eyeglass screwdrivers are large by comparison.
