OT - Update on Mom
We spent most of the day yesterday in Montgomery. She had an early appointment with her oncologist and he made an appointment for her to have an MRI later in the day.
The oncologist was very reassuring. he told us that mom had the most common type of breast cancer and that the mass is only about one centimeter in diameter. Depending on the rsults of the MRI, the mass will be removed in a procedure called a lumpectomy. And it will be performed as out-patient surgery.
on the even better side, Dr. Schneider told Mom that rdiation or chemotherapy treatments would probably not be needed.
Mom is in good spirits and confident, and I think the confidence is more sincere now than it was before Friday's doctor visit. She wants me to thank all of you for your prayers and encouraging words. She also asks that y'all continue those prayers.
Thank you my dear friends and brothers.

Great news! We have a great God and he listens. Tell your Mom how happy we are for her. It ain't fun but cancer is beatable these days, I know, 2 1/2 years cancer free myself! I hope all is well! Tom

Yeah but if we spend that much time and precision on something like that imagine the can of whoop azz we could inflict on you if we were allowed to just do it. Tom

That sounds great, Doc. My mom had a radical mastectomy years ago. She came through it alright, her hormones got all screwed up and that was a mess.

Re: OT - Update on Mom
On the list . . .
Went through a similar thing with my mother (84 this past Sept) last year. They found a lump, but it turned out to be follicular lymphoma. Scans showed the ONLY location was that tiny spot in the right breast. Oncologist recommended five wks of radiation, but it was gone in two so they gave her three to make sure. Bacause there was only one spot, they thought it best to treat it aggressively and wipe it out, but they though that a month of Rituxan immunotherapy would be overkill. Rituxan isn't chemo per se, it's a drug developed for rheumatoid arthritis that selectively goes after lymphomas, and has generally mild if any side affects. She got kinda burned from the radiation and it took a month or six weeks to heal up and for her to get her stamina back, but knock on wood, it's been over a year and the scans have been clear.
Again, prayers for your Mom.
