Howdy Folks,
I've taken an interest in a Marlin Camp .45 carbine.. The research seems to be positive.. Does anyone here have any stories or experience with these?

YES, AND IT MOSTLY UNPLEASANT. THEY DO NOT WORK TOO BADLY WITH STANDARD 45ACP AMMO BUT +P AMMO CAN GIVE 'EM A BELLYACHE LRFN. SOME OF 'EM DIDN'T SHOOT FOR SOUR APPLES. SOME HAD A TRIGGER PULL LIKE KICK STARTING A HARLEY. THERE WERE GOOD REASONS WHY MARLIN DROPPED THEM FAIRLY QUICKLY.

I've got one in the safe ,I never fired ..got it in on a trade..bout 3yr.s ago.. they are some mod.s that make funtion to perfection from what I've read..recoil spring replacement ,bolt stop...all cheap improvements...

Years ago I had one in 9mm. All I remember is the trigger was awful and it wasn't very accurate. I didn't keep it for long.

I was looking for a companion for my 1911.
First go round I bought a Kahr Arms/Auto Ordnance Thompson M1. Kinda heavy, like trying to shoulder a steel digging iron. Shot OK, but I sold it.
Bought a Camp 45. An interesting design. Very reliable. Uses 1911 type magazines, and hasn't broke on me yet.
Anyway, it's got more, and odd, moving parts than the Thompson, but it weighs about half as much. It shoots as reliably, and truthfully, I enjoy shooting it much more.

I really like my pa's "Camp Carbine" in .45 ACP. It shoots really accurately for a 45 carbine and doesn't recoil at all. It also uses 1911 magazines, which is nice. I don't seem to remember it ever jamming much at all.

I had two Camp 45s for a few years and both were amazingly accurate. No problem hitting 20 oz pop bottles at 100 yds.
The buffer in one of them had crumbled and I found an aftermarket replacement which worked very well.
There's a trick to reassembly so that the feed ramp is properly located when the trigger group is mated with the receiver. There's plenty about that on the internet.
I had six 10-shot McCormick magazines with the extended vinyl pad on the bottom that covered the bottom 1/4 of the mag tube and ended at the bottom of the mag well. They functioned flawlessly.
The biggest issue with the Camp 45 is the recoil's effects on the relativey soft harwood stock. If the stock bolt is not bolted tightly, the stocks tend to crack at the wrist. Likewise, if the buffer is a mess of white crumbs, DO NOT FIRE THE RIFLE. You will stand the chance of splitting the stock wrist.
All that said, I had the Camp 45s as companions to my 1911s. Then I came across a 16" Uzi Carbine in 9mm with a 45 ACP conversion kit, and I was completely sold on the Uzi. I sold the two Camp 45s for more than the Uzi cost me, and with the $$$ left over I bought an Uzi PG assembly converted for M3 GG mags, and haven't looked back. The Uzi is heavier, but I now have 30 rds in the stack vs. 10, and the Uzi is MUCH more robust than the Marlin.

I like mine. Buffer crumbled and I made a homemade one for a couple buck with a chairleg floor-protector and a wood-rasp, until I got a replacement one (Wisner's parts?). Re-assembly with the ramp in the wrong place embarassed me once at the range after I'd been bragging on it, but it did at least 'function' halfway well when assembled WRONG!
Anyway, when assembled correctly (easy once you know how, kind of like the little toggle thing on a Ruger Mk II pistol), my gun IS accurate (as in 75 yard pop-cans, anyway), and reliable. With the 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, and even 100-round 'drum' magazines you can get, there are many options, although I just use a 12-round extended one with a small clamp on it that holds a flashlight (same magazine works in a 1911 with the light and clamp
).
It was the nicest affordable option as a 'companion carbine' to a 1911 that I could find, and I'm glad I got it.
Although the Choate folder isn't "traditional", neither is the firearm itself, and it makes it a practical 'camp' gun.

Paul:
No, Masterpiece is a MAC-10 in single action only. The guts are pure MAC-10.
My carbine is an Uzi semi-auto, and the PG was converted by Chris Humphreys, who removes the Uzi mag well housing and welds into place a MAC-10 mag housing to accomodate the M3 mags, then rephosphates the assembly. Mine was $185 bought used from a guy getting out of his semi Uzis because he bought a FA 9mm Micro Uzi.
