side lever 77/44

Post by Rusty »

A while back there was a little talk on the new 77/44's that are out. I was wondering if anyone found out any good news on them?

It's hard to search for things containing "/" and "-" but I found a couple of my posts on the 77/44. Basically it is a great gun, rugged, waterproof, and so far seems to have good accuracy potential (no, it isn't a sub-MOA bench-gun  ).

Hope they help.

Stan, yours looks like one of the new ones. Have you tried any heavy bullets in it yet?

They are 1:20 twist, so should be "better than the Marlins" - whatever that is; I've read reports of people using 310-grainers in the Marlin 1894's with success!

I don't know Stan's plans for his 77/44, but someday I want to try mine with heavier bullets to see if the 'twist' thing is something of potential use to me. (I still don't think I want to try to make the .44 Mag do stuff the .45 Colt is better at, or vice versa, but it is fun to experiment a bit. )

I have only fired 240 grain handloads and Magtech factory 240 grain jacketed round nose with the 77/44.My accuracy has been very good.
