Who knows what on the Marlin Model 62 in .30 Carbine?
Just won this puppy on auction (higher price than I wanted to pay but the best of the
few I saw on auction sights), bought some extra mags from Numrich.
How do they shoot soft points or any other issues?

Had one 30-odd years ago. Shot everything you could put into it - factory and surplus - fine. Lost interest in the cartridge, and sold the rifle. Hope you enjoy yours.

I always thought it would be neat to have one of them but re-do it in .32-20 or .357 (since 'surplus' .30 Carbine isn't all over the place now, and I have the other rounds in my reloading/inventory).
Plus . . . it kinda looks like my Ruger 96...

Looks like a nice companion piece for a Ruger 30carbine Single Action.

Not sure if I can get the 30 Carbine Ruger SA here in CA, but I had thought of that already.
I do have access to bro's 32 H&R SS.
I was looking for a light 32 caliber rifle to use on coyotes and bobcats.
I already have moulds I can use, just need to get a Die set. Any recommendations?

Mebbe you could get a cylinder fitted to a .32 H&R, then...bsaride wrote:Not sure if I can get the 30 Carbine Ruger SA here in CA...

Harry,
Thanks, some good info there.
Did you find a mould you like?
Post a pic if you have one, thinking of scoping this one.

Re: Who knows what on the Marlin Model 62 in .30 Carbine?
Here is some more information on my gun. See http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=66995
There are pictures there with a peepsight and a scope. A person on the site sent me some scope bases that he had for years. I had rings and a scope so I put them all together. It worked a lot better than the peepsight.
I had a lot of problems finding a mould (I had even MORE problems finding 110gr jacketed roundnose bullets). All of the supply houses I checked were sold out of every possibility. I kept checking. Finally, one of them got a shipment from Lee. I bought one of their 120gr gascheck roundnose moulds. I cast up a bunch of them from Bhn 17-18 lead (pretty hard). I originally tried sizing them to 0.310". Had problems. Then I sized them to 0.309". Worked better. So I have the bullet problem taken care of until they start producing jacketed bullets again.
I have some XMP5744 powder that I tried in BP cases many years ago. It did not work well. I see that it is just about identical in burning speed with 4227 (which is a powder often recommended for the .30 carbine). I intend to load some up with 5744 to try. If it works, I have nearly a pound to use up. With cast bullets, it should be cheap shooting for a while.
BTW, I found that the magazines were sometimes balky with 4 rounds in them. Going to 3 rounds makes them work EVERY time. In addition, I found that the Marlin is very pickey about case lengths. I ended up trimming every single case to make sure they would work (800 cases). I ended up about 0.005" shorter than the maximum length. A lot of work, but it was worth it.
