Rossi 92 in half-round half-octagon...
I have an Interarms Rossi 92 in 45 Colt, 24" half-round, half-octagon barrel. How hard are these things to find ? Did Rossi make very many ? The wood is quite decent but the stain is incredibly dark...it has lightened with a lot of judicious rubbing and B.L.O.
I'd love to get another but I've never seen this one. Bought it off a shooting buddy who switched to a short-stroke 73 Uberti for SASS.

I saw one here in Springfield about 8 years ago. Never seen another one.

I love it, it looks really nice and shoots just as good as my Interarms SRC. I finally fixed the mag tube, which liked to creep forwards. I toyed with the idea of shortening the tube and making a button mag, but I'm going to keep it as-is and use it for SASS this year.

The first ones were imported by Interarms in the late 90's. They were all blue in 45lc ony. Later, EMF imported a few in 357m with color-case receivers. But, for lack of interested the dropped them about 2002 I think.

Interesting.... I have the same one.... I was batting around the idea of trimming the barrel to 18", but maybe I should keep it as is.... "but honey, now I *need* another one"

I have one also. I think, since I bought it (new), that I have only seen two of them for sale.

Have one as well-would like to lighten the wood finish as well ( very dark ) and get a better tang sight.Currently has a lyman no 2.All the talk about the trapper lenght ones has me lusting for another one.
Re: Rossi 92 in half-round half-octagon...
I bought one back in the mid 90's and have not seen another since. Looks good, shoots well, and is not very common. What more could you ask.
Neat seeing all the replies about having one.

Re: Rossi 92 in half-round half-octagon...
I put a Marble's tang sight on mine. I think I'm going to put one of those folding leaf sights on as well. Right now I have a dovetail filler block.
I noticed the barrel-band at the muzzle is slightly different from the standard carbine barrel band--the mag tube is spaced about 1/10th of an each farther from the barrel (due to the barrel taper, I assume). I used a squared-off drill bit to deepen the hole for the mag-tube plug screw, and it seemed to solve the problem I had with the mag tube moving foreward under recoil.
When I get some decent daylight I'll take a picture and post it. Neat little gun.

I had one when they first came out in 2000 and a buddy has it now. They had very poor sales and they quit making them after about a year and they are fairly rare now. They were a nice shooting gun while they were made. I did a custom one for a customer with a 1/2 magazine button mag and winchester style sights. I replaced the Butt stock with a properly shaped one and re did the wod to Winchester red. The gun came out really nice and it's his favorite deer gun.

Muy bueno, Nate. Thanks. Did they all that carbine style front band?

Yes, and the very last ones that were imported by EMF had dovetail front sights. The InterArms guns were all 45lc and all blue. The EMF's were 45lc and 357m and were blue and color-case.
I would add, this Rossi half&half is the only 24" rifle Rossi has ever made that actually feels and balances like the original 24" Winchester 92 the original having a tapered barrel. The 24" Rossi's are straight octagons and that adds forward weight. The only Rossi that comes close to the feel of the tapered barrel original or the half&half is the 20" octagon. The 4" shorter Rossi straight oct feels just about the same as the 24" tapered.
Could that be what makes the 20" staight oct Rossi so popular with the CAS shooters?

Re: Rossi 92 in half-round half-octagon...
It looks like there is a pretty wide gap between the barrel and the mag tube compared to original Winchesters. Also, I see they did not use a dove-tailed ring to secure the mag tube to the barrel. Wonder why they didn't keep the original design?

Re: Rossi 92 in half-round half-octagon...
Probably because it's not really a dovetail. It's more like a twist-loc arrangement that is a PITA to get right. Rossi is not going to do something just because it's historical if it's going to cost some extra man-hours to do. It could also be that this twist-loc arrangement doesn't work well in a round barrel. Almost every original round barrel I've seen, this twist loc mag ring was loose in the barrel. As much as I hate to admitting it, the Marlin mag hanger arrangement is a far superior setup.kaschi wrote:It looks like there is a pretty wide gap between the barrel and the mag tube compared to original Winchesters.
