Puma 44 w/20" Blue Octagon Barrel, Case Hardened Frame

I couldn't resist any longer and ordered a 20 inch octagon short rifle in 44 Mag from Bud's gun shop. The $365 price tag was just too much for me.

The only thing I don't like, is the crescent buttplate. Does anyone have an SRC stock they would like to trade for the rifle buttstock?

I've got two Rossis and they are decent quality guns with great accuracy. Their stocks can be a bit soft or really dark colored (less so with recent models), they have budget sights and really improve when they have their actions and triggers slicked up (action job is easy to do with a how to DVD from Nate).

Basically, they are more aimed at the budget and the SAS market. Nothing wrong with that as the Rossi is famed for having the strongest '92 action made. Stronger than a Marlin or even a Winchester '92 but they don't come with pretty American Walnut.

Many of the Rossis you see in the $400 price range from people like Bud's are part of overstock or going out of business sales that they were able to pick up cheaper than many dealers can get them for. So, when Bud's and others like them are out, the newer Rossis are priced more expensively.

I've got close to 3,000rds through my Rossi 24" 357 rifle and 20" carbine collectively and I'm very pleased with them.

I just got that same exact model and I really do love it.

Warhawk: I recommend that before you make any trades on the buttstock, put it to your shoulder - I think you will be surprised. Its a very well designed cressant - tall and wide enough to absorb recoil. I shot mine with 240 grain XTP's going 1900 fps (the hardest recoiling load that I've tried to date) and it was fine. I'm not a thin guy - my shoulder is fairly big and this cressant bp fits around it fine - not cutting in like some others.

And as said, Bud's is firesaling their Braztech Pumas (Rossi manuf) for some reason. These are a real bargain! I'm tempted to purchase one of the 24" barreled ones too before they're all gone... but I just don't have the $$$ right now - especially heading into Christmas and with property taxes coming due... maybe I could sell another gun...

Amen on that. I've never had an issue with the crescent buttplate on the Rossi. It fits my shoulder very well and besides, the 45LC is a pussycat in a rifle, even the high-end stuff. Leave it alone, Hawk. You won't be sorry.

Just don't shoot them on the bench, W/O a pad of some sort.

I made that mistake with my 94 crescent butt stocked 30-30 with a full load. OUCH !
