They fella i'm gettin her from ,says she handles 100 gr.s well..which is good news.. i know with the older 250's there rate of twist is suited for the 87 gr.ers ...but I'll be happy with 100gr. Remmys..
I have a late production 99A "Saddle gun" in 250/3000 that looks a lot like that except mine has a 20" barrel and a tang safety(which I like since I shoot left-handed). It is an absolute dream to carry and fun to shoot. It feels like I am packing a real piece of the old days even if it is a late production gun. Mine has not had sling studs installed so it stays in my hands when in the woods. I payed more for it than anything else I own and am therefore a little hesitant to take it to the woods. For that reason I am considering getting rid of it. I really like the straight stock and the short barrel and if I send it down the road I will try to find a 300 in the same configuration but with a little wear on it.

JB Now thats a great rig...30 WCF is my all time favorite round...
If i hang on tho the 250-3000 , i may trim the barrel back a bit 20in. or so if the vel. isn't affected so much...I once had a Savage 110 in 250 Savage . and a 257 Bob. once a time in a Ruger 77 ..but thats all my Quarter bore experince
Buckeye, The wife has one that is about like yours. Straight stock, been reblued, drilled for scope mount, and had a recoil pad added(all before she got it). Hers was made in 1924 and is 300 savage. Like yours the reblue was done right and looks good with no over polishing. Had it two years now and the deer count is 3, all muleys. She just ooooooohhhhhhhed over yours when she saw the picture. But she just said "it's not for sale, it's perfect".

I have a 99 in .250-3000 from the 1940s with that 1:14 twist. Closer I get to 100 grains, the bigger the groups, but it sure is minute of deer as far as I can use that Lyman tang peep.
Why, yes, there are some 99 fans here. I only have one, but that's all it takes to make a fan of you. Bolt action accuracy in a lever rifle isn't heaven, but it's close.
Your rifle is really nice, and in perfect condition. If it was brand new, it would be too nice to hunt, and if it was a beater you wouldn't like it as much. So, it's "perfect".
That rifle was designed to shoot 87 grain bullets, and I would sure try them at some point if that were my rifle. In fact, I have a Stith mount that would look just right on that little gem when you get tired of owning it. Just saying.
Several years ago I queried Savage regarding resurrecting the M99. The reply stated they were part-way through the process - that several parts were being prototype investment cast in Spain. Some of the prototype castings were stainless steel as well as non-stainless. . . . Years pass. . . . No product.
Has anyone accurate information regarding any reintroduction of the M99 in any form?

I have 3 M99's. Two in 300 Savage and one in 250-3000. I really like these rifles. I may never get my 250 back from my son who shot his first deer with it. Great little rifle and cartrige. Mine is a 22" barrel with a pistol grip. Shoots very well. My oldest daughter claimed my older 300 that was made in '31.
That leaves me with the 'Old Gentleman' 300 Sav that I bought out of a pawn shop a long time ago. I call him the Old Gentleman because it smelled like pipe tobacco when I got it and did for many years after that. The guy at the pawn shop had just bought it from a garage sale (probably for half what I paid for it) and put it in his shop. It's got the worst trigger of the three but shoots darn well and has the K4 scope that came with is and still works fine. I don't know exactly why I like that gun so well other than I don't miss when I shoot this gun very much. It just fits me.
I'd bet that this won't be your last 99. Don't pass by those 300 Savages, they're good guns too and you see lots more of them and usually cheaper than other calibers.
My first rifle that I bought with my own money was a 99F in 300 savage. Shot my first deer with it and in a moment of foolishness traded it for something else. (I don't remember what) I finally found another this year at a reasonable price and bought it. If I can find another in 358 win I would probably buy it too. Great to carry and I find quick to shoulder. If they ever brought out a new 99 I would be one of the first in line to get one.

What does 'Take down model ' my FFL holder refered to it as a take down ????
This gun is as slick as a ribbon... I'm used to 336 lever actions .Oh boy was I suprised !!!
Does indeed look like a takedown model. There is a little button on the forend. You remove the forend and it should have a metal "wrench" as part of it on the inside. Open the action and with the leverage of the "wrench" screw the barrel off. IIRC it has interrupted threads. You may be better off waiting for someone that has a takedown version to explain it. I've only seen some pictures and read about it.
