A Hobble.

Not a garotte, or a hobble.

Hard to tell without something to gauge size. I was going to guess hobbles too, but... Now I don't know. Have to think about it a minute.

Cant remember the name, but use them to hang game by feet when skinning them.

Looks like what I rigged up to hold hearing protectors (muff type) on my belt at the range...
...maybe they're for suspenders...?

IT IS A HOLSTER. IT'S SIZE THREW ME A CURVE AS ALL THOSE I'VE EVER SEEN USED BY PALS OF MINE WERE MADE FROM BOOT LACES. CHUCK KARWAN ALWAYS CARRIED WITH A STRING HOLSTER LIKE THAT AND NO ONE EVER FLASHED ON IT WHEN HE WAS GOING THROUGH AIRPORT INSPECTIONS AND SUCH.

We have TWO members, that came up roses on this one - way to go, Jack & Terry !
The belt is run through both loops, and the connecting thong (adjusted/tied to the length best for YOUR CCW ) held inside the pants waistband while the barrel/slide/etc of the handgun is inserted.
If it's properly adjusted to the belt/pistola, the handgun will neither fall down the pants leg or up/out of the waistband under moderate physical activity.
And............. It's available anywhere, CHEAP.

Re: OT: Whazzzat ? ? ? SOLVED ! !
It is similar to the "string holster" that was supposed to have been a favorite of mob hit men.
The string was looped over the belt, not threaded through and could be instantly removed and discarded to eliminate any evidence of a handgun being carried.
How do I know this? I was raised not far enough from Chicago.

In a previous life we used to call that a "Company holster", after the outfit that does training on a Virginia "Farm".
But it is an overly-complex version. The "real deal" is simply a loop of bootlace, passed under the belt with the gun passed through it behind the belt. If things get hot, you ditch the gun and the holster becomes -- well, a loop of bootlace, with no apparent use.

I wouldn't trust it with a striker fired pistol that has no external safety (Glock for example) unless it was carried without a round in the chamber...

It is located right smack in the middle of the trigger.
I read an article on a drop test on a Glock. They dropped the darned thing something like 40 feet, multiple times in an effort to get it to land on muzzle and on the rear of the slide. In all the drops, they were never able to make the pistol shoot.

Re: OT: Whazzzat ? ? ? SOLVED ! !
Doc, my concern isn't the weapon falling out. My concern is something getting inside the trigger guard.
Right after I got it, I tried carrying my G19 Mexican style around the house just to get used to having something on my hip. Even unloaded, there was a little pucker factor because I could see it happening. Don't have that problem with a 1911 or 5906 because I can engage the safety and all is good. Even a DA revolver doesn't bother me because of the trigger pull weight.
In the end, I suspect 95% of the concern is in my head but it's still enough that for that particular weapon I'll have a holster for it. I AM going to have to try it with my 1911 though...

I had me one of them made out of small rope that I used as a hammer holster (I forgot to bring mine with me when I went to the caribbean for a whole year). Worked great.
