Cross Bolt Safety
This has probably been asked before but when I search I can't sort out all the responses.
The cross bolt safety on my 94 Trapper has backed out several times. I'm tired of looking for the itty bitty spring and I don't like the big ol' hole in the receiver if I leave it out.
I've asked a couple of local gunsmiths and they won't do anything because of "liability issues".
Is there anything that I can do to fill the hole in the receiver? I accept the "liability issue". IT'S A GUN. Safety is between the ears.
I apologize in advance if this is a well trod question.

Winter, try this fellow. I have used him to replace one of my CBS. His service is fast and the product is good. It just drops right in and looks good.
This kit completely does away with the cross-bolt safety.
Kits are available from:
Clyde Ludwig
PO Box 26156
Wauwatosa, WI
53226-0156
phone 414-536-1101 after 6:30 PM CST
$9.95 plus $3.00 S&H
(if you order more than one kit, the shipping is still only $3.00)

Update: I found an article online about using nylon plugs to close the holes in the receiver. I popped into the gargantuan mega-home store at lunch today and bought two Hillman 1/4" Nylon Hole Plugs in black.
They were $1.04 and fit PERFECTLY and look fine. No muss, no fuss.

Thanks for posting that here Scott. That's the single neatest solution abeit lacking the "style" of the cartridge heads as Tycer used on his ".360 DW".
Wish you could combine the two...

Hobie, thanks for pointing out the obvious to me. He said Winchester but my mind read Marlin. Good example of why you shouldnt play on the web when your tired.

Don't worry, I've done it myself. Still, I didn't want the confusion to continue!45-70- wrote:Hobie, thanks for pointing out the obvious to me. He said Winchester but my mind read Marlin. Good example of why you shouldnt play on the web when your tired.

Salvo definitely has the slickest looking solution that I've seen so far. Just looks right. I have always thought the same thing...initials engraved into the plug would be even nicer, or some symbol that it significant to the owner.

Thanks guys!
I PM'd back to you meanc.
My 94AE is such a better carbine now that I got rid of that rebounding hammer and replaced it with a half cock hammer & parts.
Filling that dang navel hole was just icing on the cake
I prefer the cross bolt safety filler to be used with the half cock hammer conversion, but I can make the filler with the rebounding notch if required, I can leave off the screw slot, if you like a smooth look on the left side too.
