I read a book the other day by Vince Flynn where the FBI agent carried a 345 magnum....turned me off on him as a writer immediately. If he's too lazy to find out that it isn't a viable caliber then he's a hack IMO.

Hey there should be some SOHC motors in that bunch...Kalitta and Robinson and IIRC Karamazines all ran Ford Elephants. Even the Snake played with one for awhile. BTW if you've never heard a SOHC Ford on Blown Nitro you've missed a sound that you will never forget...unbelievable. One was at the Noble OK reunion several years back, running in Nostalgia Top Fuel, and from the stands you could hear it in the pits warming up and distinguish it immediately from all of the Donovans and Chryslers. Yes, I'm a Nitromethane addict...

What about writers who mention cops or PI's flicking off the safety on their .39 revolvers?
That little detail has caused me to immediately throw more than one book in the trash.

yeah, good old Silver Springs. Home of glass-bottomed boats ans six-foot long blue catfish. I still have fond memories of visiting that place when I was a kid.
IIRC, part of PT-109 was filmed there. I seem to remember the wreckage of a PT-boat on the shore of the river.

I think it climbed up in a railroad box car(getting a piece of food left,or ate a hobo) door got closed and rode free from Montana to Florida(then busted out?????????)In time he will probably take the return trip!
I have trouble watching any cop/techical/lab shows. They have so many errors that it takes the fun out of the story. Why can't these producers hire techical experts to guide the writers to, at least, get simple facts right.
One of the best was an early CSI show where the killer buried a women in a 6" concrete foundation wall. This meant she was REALLY thin, and all the sub contractors would have to have been co-conspirators to not see the body. Really dumb plot line!
CSI Miami, David Caruso doing his rendition from the Jack Lord School of Acting. I swear, the plot lines are stolen right out of old Hawaii 5-0 scripts. I hum the theme song of 5-0 every time I see that show come on. It really ticks the wife off, she like the show, but even she admits I'm right.
"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work."

Ah yes, Sea Hunt. At the end of every show "Mike Nelson" says never dive alone. After doing just that for the entire show. Still, one of my favorites, right up there with Ripcord, Whirlybird, Rescue 8 (and you thought Emergency, was a new idea), and Sky King.

I suspect at least some of the caliber errors in books are typesetting/printing mistakes rather than author induced. Unless it happens every time the caliber is mentioned.
I got a kick out of the last couple of episodes the The Shield when they had the street-wise main character CCW'ing a .357DE. The firearms training and shootout scenes in Sons of Anarchy are pretty bad but I watch/watched both shows for entertainment value and interesting (to me at least) plot lines.
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.

I think Steve has it right. Why spend the winter curled up in a ball hibernating when you could be hanging out at the Villages playing golf and sipping drinks with little umbrellas in them.

I show I normally watch, Bones on Thursdays, had a bad one this week. The body was found in a tar pit or something or other and the victim had been shot. They drug the pit and found various items, one being a gun. It was stated that it was a Ruger Mark III, and could have been there since 6 months ago or twenty years. On top of it, the gun they showed wasn't even a Ruger, but something else entirely (looked PP or Makorov shaped--too cruddy looking to tell).

Mr. Caruso's acting range is limited to putting his hands on his hips and looking under the chin of all the other actors. I think he has a chin fetish.
But Callie is hot.

I saw that one. I cringed when the lab guy called it a Ruger Mk III.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.
Grizz in the glades was too funny. ALMOST funny enough to override my frequent fantasy of using caruso's sunglasses to inspect him for polyps. I never got over his antics on NYPD Blue (he nearly ruined the show before quiting), and CSI Miami is nothing except a showcase for his narcissism.
