I 'missed' the Gulf I/Desert Shield General Recall by about 30min - all because I was returning to CONUS via Luftansa rather than an a US Carrier (I was carrying POWs and the FRG/Luftansa check-in was 10,000x easier than the US Carrier Rectal Exam.)
My flight was already in the air when everyone else rotating/still standing in the security queue had to head back to their Unit...

I'm away from my computer right now, but if you will leave a message, I still have my Geek Tools...

USAF Security Forces, airbase defence ISRT/ESRT patrol leader among other things.
Aviano Italy, 2005-2008, August 07-Feb 08 at Al Udeid, Qatar (armed vacation.....not much of a deployment, but better than nothing).
My brother was Navy, USS Kitty Hawk '93-97.
My dad was US Army, 1966-1975, 101st Airborne in Vietnam for '68-69. 1975-1982ish he was National Guard, 1982/3-1990 he was Navy Reserve. He'd actually switched from the Navy Reserve right out of high school to the Army because as a reservist he couldn't go to sea for a year (basically, made no money) at that time. He was on two frigates, then a MIUW unit (ground based port defense). 3 months after he retired they called him back in for the Gulf War on about 2 hours notice. Oddly enough his XO was his boss at work.... and half a dozen guys in his unit worked with him.
He re-retired in 1991.
We've had people in my family in uniform for the U.S going back to the Revolution (greatX2 grandfather was a corporal, later lieutenant, Union infantry for example) on my dad's side......the urge to serve is strong with us.

Too long to list all but Started in Sep 1973 retired Feb 2004.

1st Cav, ENGR Bn, 19th Special Forces, 7th Special Forces, 10th Special Forces, Special Operations Detachment-E, Special Agent DSS, Commander MP Law & Order Detachment.
Now just a contractor working for JIEDDO here and in the Sand Box.
