My friend in Glendale, AZ asked me if I knew how much you could make for coyote pelts. Said he was thinking of taking up varmint hunting. I don't know so I'm asking here.
Is there any value to coyote pelts in the southwest?

Re: Varmint hunting and coyote pet prices
Not sure about SW, the pelts can very widely depending on area and altitude. The mountain yotes down there have better fur than the desert counterparts IIRC. But all that aside, there's not any money to be had in hunting fur. It will pay for some ammo and maybe a little gas. Last numbers I heard for coyotes around here was $15 tops and an average around $5. Ain't gonna slow us down though. If they even have a touch of mange on em just let em lay, you won't see any buyers.

Joe it has been a five years since living in Phoenix, but I remember prime southwest coyote pelts bringing 35-40 retail and 15-22 at auction.
Arizona Trapper Association would be the one to contact. I dont have current contact info, but they used to have a guy that handled auction sales for the group.
I highly recommend joining Phoenix Varmint Callers, great bunch of guys that meet once a month and have a semi organized hunt once a month. He can find info about PVCI at Randalls Gun Shop in Glendale.

FYI,... SW desert diamond back rattler skins , about 5" x 4', brings close to $70 or $80 bucks a piece retail,.... can't remember exactly. Desert yote pelts are not considered "prime" by the few skinners I know.

The guy I usually take them to will not even take them. Says they are not worth his time.
