Never read a Hopalong novel, yet I was a devoted childhood fan of his TV shows.

I met William Boyd at my doctor's office during one of his last years. He was being treated for heart problems at the time, and the doctor ushered me in to Hoppy's cubicle to cheer him up. I was about 10 years old at the time.

I understand that ol' Hoppy of the books is 180 degrees the opposite of the buttermilk drinking, horse kissing TV hero; but definitely throw my name in, please!

Pete - YAY!

Thank you! Just opened up the site this morning. This will be my first Hopalong book.

And it's a fitting reminder on my shelf of my friends at Leverguns!

Address sent. Actually, my town is so small, you could just put "For John" on the package and it will get to me.

Close.

At the local high school, you cannot do ANY research on firearms, guns, or whatever (even hunting) from their computers. A firewall blocks it.

I'll probably get the book with a HazMat stamp on it!

Thanks for the congrats, Madman!

Pete -

I was unable to log on yesterday due to a family gathering; but I received the book two days ago in geat shape. It's like new! Are you sure you've read it?

I can't wait until I dig into the Hoppy series for the first time, and perhaps start a reading frenzy with this line of books as I revisit adventures of my old hero. He's a bit rougher around the edges than the Hoppy of my childhood years, I'm told; but then again, so am I!
Image

I was amazed to read the dozens of titles written by Louis L'Amour that have been translated into great Western Movies - not only the Sackett novels, but:
Catlow
The Cherokee Trail
Conagher
Crossfire Trail
How the West Was Won (that was a huge surprise)
The Shadow Riders
Short stories - Bowdrie and Bowdrie's Law (the character Bowdrie)
...and possibly other titles that I don't recognize as silver screen adaptations

I can see that I have truly missed some great reading by not following this great author, sooner.

It was also interesting to note, from the book jacket, that Hoppy was originally created by Clarence E. Mulford in more than one novel, and that "Mulford chose the young Louis L'Amour to carry on the Hopalong tradition in four unforgettable novels" after Mulford retired.

Thank you again! What a great Christmas present from you and from Leverguns!

You're entirely welcome, John.

It's almost as good as hunting - Light the fire, pull up a chair, and sip a good brandy with a good read. Enjoy.

Well, this got me to thinking about the few Louis L'Amour books I haven't read yet, so I stopped off at the library today and scored big. I've got four of them to read tonight!

cedars and a magnificent Whitetail buck framed in the semi-buckhorn sights of a 120-year old Winchester.

Kirk I just got to tell you, once just ain't enough. You will go through them all many times, some more than others. I started reading them in the early 1950's and still at it.

Well, it's been a good weekend; I was able to read three Louis L'Amour books .... one Friday evening, one Saturday evening, and one this afternoon and evening. (The Sackett Brand, Ride the River, and Treasure Mountain). At least I think those are the titles. I was in such a dadgummed rush to get reading I didn't spend much time reading the title up front. I still have one more stashed up in the bedroom and the library called and said they got another ordered in. Tomorrow, it's back to work.
