I am too lazy to do that

Machine them, no.
About all I do when I cast bullets is inspect the bases to make sure they are crisp and cleanly filled out. Those that are not are rejected.

ditto- J Miller. If they fill out the mold that is good enough for me. Those made to recieve a gas check may or may not get one. Either way I see no difference in accuracy, only in less leading of the barrel with GC. At least that seems to be the case.

If I'm that concerned about the base of the boolit - it gets a jacket (gas check).

What Thunder said.
I thought I knew a bit about base quality until about a month ago. I had some "seconds" of my 45 ACP 200 gr SWCs in a little tray and decided to lube them up, load them and go down to the local indoor range for some slow-fire practice. They were "seconds" because the bases weren't fully filled out around their circumfrence.
Well, I fired the best scores with those bullets that I'd ever fired with that gun (accurized, red dot sight, etc.). One target was even a 98/100! That's not easy on the 50 foot target with a 7/8" 10-ring
. Yeah, I was having a good day, but the bullets had to be flying true as well.

Re: cast boolet bases
I had a similar experience recently. I was a few rounds short for a silhouette match so I picked the best 10 out of the reject bucket. Some of these were wrinkled but most had poorly filled out bases. I used them on 50 meter chickens and danged if I could see any difference from bullets with perfect bases. They went where the rifle was pointed. This was from an original 1873 in 44 WCF so I was launching them at about 1050 FPS.

When I cast a bullet that looks like the base needs machined, back into the pot it goes
2x22
