Picked it up a week or 2 back - imported it from Florida so it's still adapting to this climate.
I have to say, whoever nickled this did one hell of a job. Darn near all the markings are still crisp. Although I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with those grips.
I don't expect to be in near as good of shape when I hit 115 years of age.

It's cute, I like it. I should get one for my wife. What caliber is it?

Still in its original 455, with a really good bore. Usually I'm not a nickle fan, but this one was so unusual I just had to get it. Plus it qualifies as an antique up here, so I don't have to deal with all the paperwork BS.

A .455. That would be fun to shoot.

It's a "dress up" gun, like for a fancy (tux-only) Texas cattleman's barbecue, where an attendee might wanna show off - sorta similar to your "best Sunday suit".
I would not wear that to the BBQ no. But I do like it - especially since its in its original chambering! But I'd definately get some horn or walnut grips for her... mother of pearl does shout "pimp" no doubt
It is kinda short on engraving, and gold enlays, but if you get a really nice hand carved and tooled gunbelt and holster, it would do until you can get an engraved, silver-plated and ivory-gripped SAA.
I'd love to have one of those old British Bulldogs, even with mother of pimp grips. That is a mighty nice looking old six-gun.

I always loved that quote. I've been thinking about getting a set of repro black plastic grips to go with it anyway. And the grips on it now aren't even real mother of pearl - they're the fake plastic type.
From what little I've read about the British Army in the Victorian Era.... Officers supplied their own accoutrements. Many were shipped away to far flung duty posts were humid conditions would ruin common steel and blued finishes. It was a common practice for British officers to pay to have their equipment and pistols nickled. I am suprised we dont see more nickled Weblys around. Maybe most of those pistols never made it back from India and Africa.
always press the "red" button--- it's worth the effort and the results can be fun
Forget those guys. You can wear yer MOP gripped pistol to my BBQ any day. I think it looks neat. Not everybody could afford Ivory when that snob Patton said it, and that was when ya could legally harvest elephant ivory. Get ya a military flap holster, cut it back and make it into a double loop, and shazaam, period correct for a mountain man

.
The variation I've heard that makes the most sense to me (because I like it ) is: When a Texas Ranger would show up at a duty station with a fancy, tricked out handgun someone would ask "Where do you think you're going? To the Governor's B-B-Q?" (IOW fancy dress required)
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.
Sambar or even elk antler might look decent on it. Although I can't imagine there are many people offering Webley grips in any material, let alone those.
I like it. Personally, I'd get ivory for it, but I don't think real pearl would look out of place either. Pearl just isn't very forgiving if, Lord forbid, it gets dropped. Ivory doesn't like it either, but it won't crack/shatter like pearl will.
I like it, you don't need engraving and gold to cry out "class". As with everyone else I'm thumbs down on the grips though. I'm think a nice set of high gloss black stained walnut will do nicely.
I would get some custom black or white linen micarta grips and a holster that holds six rounds on the outside like one of those by Simply Rugged. Load the cartridges with some WFN bullets and no one will laugh.
