Loading round balls in 45LC

Seem to remember thread on earlier forum about using round balls as bullets in .45LC brass.
Have an economical source of .454 lead balls that would suit my Win Trapper.
Would appreciate any comments...

I use 6.0 gr Unique under .454 RB. Flare casemouth and seat the ball just past it's equator to allow for a light roll crimp. They cycle fine through my Marlin 1894 Ltd.

How did accuracy compare to regular projectiles?
Did you lubricate the lead balls?
Was leading a problem?
Thinking of using TRAIL BOSS
and lubricating balls with LEE LIQUID ALOX.

Accuracy wold be "acceptable" for small game and tin cans out to 50 yd or a little more. 3"-4" groups from my 16" barrel.

I never lubed any and had no leading problems, but then I didn't shoot a hundred or so at a time. LLA wouldn't hurt, in fact several other folks have stated that that's what they use.

Haven't tried Trail Boss with the RB, only Unique. I can't "warm up" to TB for some reason. (Olde Pharte that's resistant to change) Maybe I'll break down and give it a try anyway since I have a couple of bottles of it sitting around.

I have shot r.b. in my .45 Colt Marlin Cowboy Rifle. I was using 6.5 grs. 231 and 50 yard groups ran in the 2" range if I did my part. I used .457" round balls in fired cases. I pushed the ball into the case by hand until it stopped. Then added Lee lube around the edge of the ball. In a revolver, a crimp would be needed to keep the ball in place.

Speaking of black powder - Back in the late 1890's early 1900's, UMC loaded a Gallery .45 Colt Cartridge with 7 grs. of b.p. under a round ball that was seated deeply in the case. That's a loading I want to try this year to see how it shoots.

Has anyone loaded two balls? Seems to me a very small charge of Bullseye would allow a ball under the front pill - two holes for the price of one...
